One of the stories I tell in my book DRIVEN is The Stroke Story. Some context...

On February 28, 2011, out of nowhere, I was hit with the most intense case of nausea and room-spinning I could've ever imagined. What followed was months of tests to determine what had happened, and in the end, what had happened was a stroke.

While I talk about hard work and perseverance, I believe it's equally important to continue to live in a way that demonstrates hard work and perseverance. It's the integrity of living the message I'm putting out there.

In both business and parenting, I'm continually asking myself if I'm living in accordance with my values, and this helps keep me on track. While not always pleasing, it's a sure fire way to inch closer toward being the person you want to be.

Professional speaking and stand-up comedy aren't that different. Both require you to hold an audience by expressing an idea that connects—often times, through stories.

As a professional speaker, I take inspiration from stand-ups. I rebooted this podcast as a way of working out ideas and honing stories, just like they do in clubs and bars.

You'll hear fine-tuned stories I've told a thousand times, and new ones that may never be told on stage. There's no single theme, but there are common threads—drawn from my life as a teacher, UFC fighter, family man and small-town kid with big dreams. You'll also hear some story-based interviews.

While I've been sauna'ing for years consistently, the cold plunge is a newer habit I've picked up. First learning about Wim Hoff (the OG of cold plunging) years ago on Rogan, I've been slowly dipping my toes (and body) into various cold tubs. My take is that cold benefits are a bit less agreed upon than sauana benefits, but it's something I'm currently committed to nonetheless.
