The introduction captures the reader's imagination and inspires a longing for that ultimate fulfillment.

Moving on to Psalm 101, attributed to David, it offers insights into the responsibilities of leadership. The psalm was likely written during David's early days as king, as he sought to reform the abuses and confusions of the previous reign. David declares his commitment to establish a monarchy that mirrors God's own righteousness and justice. The introduction further highlights the relevance of this psalm to Christian leaders, drawing upon the exposition by Martin Luther, who emphasized the qualities that every prince or magistrate should strive to embody.

The passages encourage believers to pray for their leaders at all levels, recognizing the transformative power of God in the hearts of individuals. We should pray for our leaders to govern with integrity, righteousness, and virtue, ultimately leading to positive changes in society.

We must have consistency and authenticity in our faith. As believers we should be mindful of our behavior within our homes, not merely putting on a façade of righteousness for the public but living out their faith genuinely and consistently. We should see the fruit of the Spirit in our lives, both inside and outside our homes.

Steve discusses the account of Uzzah's death while trying to steady the Ark of the Covenant. Some may find God's reaction extreme, so we explore possible reasons for it. Firstly, God had given explicit instructions on how the Ark was to be handled and transported, emphasizing its holiness and the need for priests to handle it. By placing the Ark on a cart instead of following God's specific instructions, the Uzzah transgressed His commands. Perhaps his death may have been a consequence of his violation of God's clear instruction.

Maybe Uzzah's attitude and lack of reverence toward the Ark could have played a role. As the Ark had been in Uzzah's house for some time, he may have become indifferent to its significance. This indifference and a possible cavalier attitude towards God's Word could have led him to believe that he needed to intervene and steady the Ark, showing a lack of faith and trust in God's ability to protect His own holiness. It is important to pay attention to God's instructions, and to be obedient, and acknowledge His holiness.

How wonderful is God's provision of a way to escape His wrath through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. God is holy and His justice requires payment for sin, but His love made a way for humanity to be saved. By accepting Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, we can come to the Father and receive the gift of salvation. This account serves as a reminder to respect and honor God's commands, acknowledging His holiness and the redemption offered through Jesus.

The Lord said to Moses, tell the people to send away from the gap, anyone who is unclean, that is, anyone who has a serious skin disease or discharge, And anyone who has touched a dead body, whether they are a man or a woman, send them away so that the camp where I am living among you will not be made unclean. So the Israelites obeyed God's command, they sent those people outside the camp. They did what the Lord had told Moses, the Lord said to Moses, tell this to the Israelites, you might do something wrong to another person. When you do that you are really sinning against God. So you're guilty of doing wrong, you must confess that sin, then you must fully pay for that wrong thing you did, you must add 1/5 to the payment And give it all to the person you had done wrong to. Every time we take communion, or the Lord's supper, whatever you call it in your church, we are reminded of his broken body and spilled blood. The bread and the wine (or grape juice), are symbols of the sacrifice he made. But is taking communion necessary for salvation?

Summary

Throughout history, the focus of the church has shifted from one doctrinal topic to another. Initially, the church concentrated on defining the inspired Scripture, followed by doctrines such as the Trinity, the nature of Jesus, salvation, and the church itself. It wasn't until recent centuries that the study of end-time prophecy gained more attention. The books of prophecy, including Daniel 7-12, were often considered difficult to understand, even by the prophets themselves. However, as time progresses, we can begin to grasp some glimpses of their meaning. Daniel 8:26, for example, mentions a vision that should be sealed for future relevance. While some interpret this as indicating its incomprehensibility until the end times, others believe it suggests safeguarding its importance for later use, similar to how one would protect an essential document. The notion of being in the end times seems plausible when comparing the prophecies to current events, particularly in Chapter 12 where it mentions people running to and fro and knowledge increasing. The modern-day ability to travel quickly and the exponential growth of knowledge through technology align with these prophecies, indicating a potential correlation to our present age.

Regarding the end times, the exact timing is known only to God the Father. However, Scripture provides numerous indicators to look for. The Book of Daniel warns of a time of unprecedented trouble, but those whose names are written in the book will be delivered. The outcome of the end times involves both everlasting life and shame with everlasting contempt. Therefore, it is essential for individuals to consider their relationship with Jesus as their Savior. Those who have accepted Jesus and have their names written in the book can anticipate everlasting life, while those who have rejected Him face shame and everlasting contempt. It is a matter of choosing which side one wishes to be on in the ultimate outcome of the end times.

Summary of Proverbs 17

In Proverbs 17, one verse compares the process of purifying silver and gold in a crucible to how God tests and purifies the hearts of individuals. Trials and challenges are part of God's plan to refine and strengthen our faith, even though they may appear as tragedies. We need to trust in God's purpose and recognize that He works all things for the good of those who love Him.

Another verse highlights the joy and significance of grandchildren to the elderly, as they bring immense happiness and pride. As a grandfather, there is a special bond I share with my grandchildren. The verse also speaks about the importance of fathers in the lives of their sons, encouraging fathers to strive to be someone their children can be proud of and to cultivate a strong relationship with God to lead by example.

Yet another verse says that a joyful heart is good medicine. We should have a grateful heart, even in difficult circumstances, because God loves and cares for us.

Steve Webb 0:57Psalm 96 has no title And no author is mentioned either. However, in First Chronicles 16, when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem, David sang a song of praise to the Lord. This psalm echoes much of that song, giving an indication that this might be a Psalm of David, of Psalm 96. James Montgomery Boice wrote, the meaning of the Hebrew word for worship is to prostrate oneself not to praise God for His attributes, which is what the English word worship means. But here we must note that although the meaning of the Hebrew word differs from the English word, the Hebrew understanding of worship, nevertheless also involves giving God praise for his attributes. This is what is being said here. Here, the nations of the world are told to give God glory. Beloved, as we read this psalm, notice that at first it speaks to God's people. Then it speaks to the nations.

The half-tribe of Manasseh betrayed their faith and followed the gods of the people living in the land. As a consequence, God stirred up the kings of Assyria, who took the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile.

There is a parallel between the fate of the half-tribe of Manasseh and a scene from the movie "On the Waterfront" where Marlon Brando's character laments his missed opportunities. Similarly, the half-tribe of Manasseh could have had a significant position but lost it due to their unfaithfulness to God. Believers in Jesus have been given so much, including eternal life and a relationship with God. But some Christians choose to forfeit their inheritance and become trapped in various addictions and bondages.

I'm happy you joined us today. And if you're already a Lifespring family member, it's great to see you again. Today is The Law Monday and our reading will be Numbers 1 through 4. Before we get started, let's have a word of prayer. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we thank you for our time together. And we pray that as we read today, you would teach us, that you would touch our hearts and our minds. I pray this in Jesus' name, amen. Okay, let's begin.

Steve Webb 0:49I have a brief introduction to the book of Numbers for you before we get started. Numbers is titled "In the Wilderness" in Hebrew, and that is really what the book is about. The previous book, Leviticus told us the story of the Hebrew people in the year after God through Moses led them out of Egyptian bondage. Leviticus covered just a year, but the book of Numbers covers the more than 38 years they were in the wilderness.

Steve Webb 1:14Numbers, chapter 1. The LORD spoke to Moses in the Sinai desert in the meeting tent on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they left the land of Egypt: Take a census of the entire Israelite community by their clans and their households, recording the name of every male, 20 years old and above, who is eligible for military service in Israel. These you and Aaron will enlist in their military units. Take with you one man from each tribe who is the head of his household. These are the names of the men who will assist you: from Reuben, Elizur, Shedeur’s son; from Simeon, Shelumiel, Zurishaddai’s son; from Judah, Nahshon, Amminadab’s son; from Issachar, Nethanel, Zuar’s son; from Zebulun,
