Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 18 Article 2 Is the picture of kingship presented here realistic, or is it too idealistic? The sermon explores the theological distinction between wishful thinking and the infallible assurance of salvation, grounding this confidence in the divine promises and the testimony of the Holy Spirit rather than human merit. It then transitions to an exegesis of 2 Samuel 23, where David's final oracle describes the ideal ruler who governs with justice and the fear of God, bringing flourishing to the people like morning light and rain. The text contrasts this godly kingship with the destructive nature of wickedness, urging believers to pray for leaders who reflect God's law. Ultimately, the sermon identifies Jesus Christ as the perfect fulfillment of this royal ideal, who alone holds an everlasting covenant and reigns eternally from heaven, offering believers peace and hope in the present age.

  • First Missionary Journey Continues: Pisidian Antioch
On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.' " 48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

  • Session 120 - Sovereignty of God
This sermon examines the theological necessity of the virgin birth as a demonstration of God's sovereignty, arguing that a sinless human nature was required for Jesus to offer a perfect sacrifice for sin. The teaching explores how the Holy Spirit's supernatural intervention ensured that no human sin was involved in Christ's conception, distinguishing Him from all other humans who are born with a sinful nature. It connects this event to the broader scope of God's eternal plan, highlighting that the joy set before Christ in enduring the cross was the fulfillment of redemption and the establishment of an eternal kingdom. The message concludes by affirming the security of the believer's salvation, emphasizing that eternal life is a secure gift resulting from Christ's sinless life and atoning death, leading to a future where righteousness dwells eternally without the presence of sin or curse.

  • Session 119 - Sovereignty of God
This sermon explores the sovereignty of God as revealed in the creation of the heavens and the earth, beginning with Genesis 1:1. It argues that the current world is temporary, destined to be replaced by a new heaven and earth as described in Revelation and 2 Peter, emphasizing that God exists outside of time and has a definitive plan for history. The speaker presents four key evidences for God's existence: the enduring authority of Scripture, the internal witness of human conscience, the evidence of intelligent design in the natural world, and the geological record of the Flood. The tone is instructional and persuasive, urging listeners to recognize the Creator's handiwork and respond with reverence rather than denial.

  • Luther's Separation from Rome
This sermon examines the biblical mandate for separation from false religion, grounded in the five rhetorical questions of 2 Corinthians 6. The speaker contrasts the principles of righteousness and unrighteousness, light and darkness, and the distinct personalities of Christ and Belial to demonstrate that no true fellowship exists between the gospel and apostasy. Historical examples, including Martin Luther's stand against the Roman Catholic Church and the formation of the Free Presbyterian Church in 1951, illustrate the necessity of separating from systems that compromise the truth. The central argument is that believers must align themselves exclusively with God, who promises to dwell with and receive those who come out of unclean systems. The message concludes with a call to maintain this distinctiveness, ensuring that the church remains a temple of the living God rather than an idolatrous institution.

  • Don’t be Open-Minded
This passage is a lot more meaningful if you can have a better understanding of the word for "sure" and the word for "simple". Sure is used by Paul and Peter in the New Testament and compared to their experience with Christ. The word for simple is actually a word that means an open-gate or door. And the image here is compared to our mind that has an open gate with no filter to keep things out or keep things safe inside our mind. In other words, don't have an open mind without filters or guards to keep bad stuff out, if you don't you are simple minded and you will have no discernment to guide you through the vicissitudes of life. The Word of God will give you the wisdom needed for life.

  • Session 123 - Q & A
This session addresses common theological misconceptions regarding biblical interpretation, specifically critiquing the spiritualized views of premillennialism and Calvinism that deny a literal future reign of Christ. The discussion emphasizes the necessity of a literal interpretation of Scripture, using the contrast between the white horse in Revelation 6 and 19 to demonstrate the distinct roles of the Antichrist and the Lord Jesus. It further explores the doctrine of eternal security by clarifying the unforgivable sin as the conscious rejection of the Holy Spirit's testimony, distinguishing it from mere doubt or lack of understanding. The speakers advise believers to anchor their faith in the clear and plain teachings of the Bible rather than allowing ambiguous passages to undermine their assurance of salvation. Finally, the conversation highlights the importance of recognizing historical foreshadows, such as the persecution of Jews, as indicators of the tribulation period while maintaining a focus on God's sovereign knowledge and the believer's secure position in Christ.
