DON'T LET THE RUTS CHOOSE YOUR ROAD. WHEN TRADITION TAKES THE PLACE OF TRUTH Mark 7:6–15 KJV Why are standard railroad tracks spaced an unusual 4 feet, 8½ inches apart? A popular historical story traces that measurement through earlier British railways, wagon-ways, road ruts, and eventually ancient transportation. While the familiar "two horses" explanation oversimplifies the history, it illustrates an important spiritual truth: once a rut becomes established, generations can continue following it without asking why.In Mark 7:6–15, Jesus confronted religious leaders who elevated human traditions above God's commandments. This message challenges believers to distinguish biblical convictions from personal preferences and inherited traditions. Traditions can be valuable, but they must never replace the authority of Scripture. We must continually ask not merely, "What have we always done?" but, "What does God's Word say?"Don't let yesterday's ruts determine tomorrow's road. Let God's Word light the way, and follow Jesus.
