Ep. 9: How to Shoot a Feature Film in Five Days (ft. AJ Rome and Dean West)
This episode of Light Talk we are joined by AJ Rome and Dean West, two amazing actor/filmmakers we’ve had the pleasure of working with on several occasions. They took on the ambitious project of shooting a feature-length film in just 5 days on regular hours. We sat down and discussed their film, the methods and strategies they used, and how to not only have your crew invested in a project but also how to treat them right during a highly flexible, experimental shoot.

This episode of “Light Talk” we are joined by Vicki Mayer, a professor of Communication at Tulane University. Professor Mayer recently published her work, Almost Hollywood, Nearly New Orleans: The Lure of the Local Film Economy and has made it available for free digital download. Professor Mayer joined us at inDEPTH Media to discuss New Orleans’s film history, the current (and possibly once again changing) film tax credits in Louisiana, and the socio-cultural impact they have had on our communities. Though at times critical of how the credits were implemented, Mayer emphasizes the undeniable connection New Orleans has to film throughout its history – even as far back as the silent film era. Come join us as we discuss the complexities, challenges, and benefits, of growing creative industries!
Check out “Talking Life and Culture in New Orleans,” ViaNolaVie. This is a very cool digital media project Professor Mayer has been coordinating with NolaVie and many others.

This episode we are joined by local filmmaker Randy Mack as he discusses the 10+ year epic of producing, editing, and distributing Burning Annie, a fantastic feature length movie described by The New York Times as “A thoroughly professional comedy, well paced, attractively photographed and smartly acted.” From hostile takeovers of his potential distributing partners to hiding out in editing studios after they close, Randy’s story is definitely entertaining, educational, and insightful.
You can find the kickstarter for Burning Annie here.

We are once again returning with an episode of “Light Talk: A Filmmaking Podcast”! This week, both Mickey and Greg are in the office.
Brandy and Pablo approached us for a wedding video. Such a beautifully unique couple required an equally unique film to match their expressive personalities. This was an incredibly fun experience filled with storm troopers, second lines, and a beautiful backdrop for it all to unfold. We had an amazing opportunity to stretch our legs creatively as we collaborated with a couple who gave us the freedom to do so. Congratulations once more to Brandy and Pablo!

Welcome back to Light Talk: A Filmmaking Podcast! Greg rides solo this episode and discusses inDEPTH Media’s upcoming coverage of the presidential inauguration in Washington D.C., the protest march the following day, and the ideological/professional questions the project raises. Where do personal and professional brand collide? What is our responsibility with regards to impartiality? This project will definitely be an interesting exploration of these questions.

Welcome back! This week we chat with filmmaker Ben Matheny about Easy Does It, a new feature film currently undergoing crowdfunding! Produced by EFI Productions and Worklight Pictures, Easy Does It is a “Hollywood New Wave” inspired film all about two guys, a muscle car, and how they kind of sort of…accidentally kidnapped someone in their pursuit of the American Dream. From their kickstarter: “Easy Does It is a movie about friendship, chasing dreams, and the sacrifices that come when we have to choose between the two.”
Join us as we discuss the film, producing independent films in New Orleans and in general, and sneak in a short chat about the recently released Arrival!
