  • I Hate It, Let’s Watch It: 149. Polaroid
Ahh, a movie that finally dares to posit the question...if most people are afraid of the dark, why not make the entire movie dark? Like, SO DARK that they can't even see the ACTUAL scary things that are going on. It's brilliant. It's bold. It's impossible to watch within a one-mile radius of a light source. So close your eyes and let us guide you through the poorly lit journey that is Polaroid, a movie about voodoo photography that never quite...develops into its full potential.

  • Unstoppable Mindset: Episode 213 – Unstoppable Senior Executive and Thought Leader with Denise Meridith

I am not sure the term “unstoppable” is good enough for our guest Denise Meridith. Denise was born in Brooklyn NY and, in part, attributes her “get things done” attitude to her upbringing in New York. As a child she wanted to be a veterinarian, but such was not to be. Denise explains that colleges back then didn’t consider women capable of assuming veterinarian positions. So, Denise got a BS degree in Wildlife Biology.

She then joined the U.S. Bureau of Land Management where, for 29 years, assumed a number of position including serving as the deputy director. We get to hear stories of her time with the bureau and how she moved around, something that was fairly common for government employees for awhile.

After serving with the bureau for more than 20 years Denise was offered “early retirement” due to the long time she served there. After retiring she became the CEO of Denise Meridith Consultants Inc (DMCI), a public and community relations firm. In 2019 she also became the CEO of The World's Best Connectors LLC, a virtual community for C-suite executives that helps other executives enhance their connections with family, employees, clients, government & the media. If running two companies weren’t enough Denise also has formed a 501C3 nonprofit organization, Read to Kids US Inc to promote literacy and family bonding.

See what I mean about being unstoppable? Denise is quite engaging and I am sure you will discover that the time listening to our conversation goes by quickly and you may even wish to give this episode a second listen.

    About the Guest:

Denise Meridith is a highly accomplished senior executive, entrepreneur and thought leader, with more than 40 years of success in government, technology, sports, and entertainment. When sexism denied her access to her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, she earned a BS in Wildlife Biology from Cornell University and became the first professional woman hired by the Federal Bureau of Land Management. During her 29 years with the Bureau, Meridith served in multiple states and, while Deputy Director in Washington, DC, she oversaw 200 offices, 10,000 employees and a $1.1 billion budget.

After early retirement from the Federal government and for the past 20 years, she has been CEO of Denise Meridith Consultants Inc (DMCI), a public and community relations firm. Since 2019, Meridith has also been CEO of The World's Best Connectors LLC, a virtual community for C-suite executives that helps other executives enhance their connections with family, employees, clients, government & the media. Recently she created a 501(c)3 non-profit Read to Kids US Inc to promote literacy and family bonding.

During the past 25 years in Arizona, Denise founded the Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce, Linking Sports & Communities (a youth sports non-profit for 14 years), and was a Governor-appointed member of the original Arizona Sports & Tourism Board. She helped win approval for State Farm Stadium for the Arizona Cardinals.  In academia, she taught sports marketing for undergraduates at Arizona State University and business operations for executives at eCornell. As a freelance reporter, she has even written 1000 articles about small businesses. Denise Meridith has won many awards for business and community development in Arizona.

  • ipXperience: The Upcoming Photonics Revolution | An ipXperience With Cees Links

In an ipXperience so disruptive that it falls outside of ipXchange’s current roster of component type icons, Guy chats to Cees Links, CEO of SuperLight Photonics. Despite being an industry legend that helped to turn Wi-Fi into a Global standard for wireless communication, Cees’ latest endeavour relates to photonics, presenting the World’s first portable wideband laser for full-colour, coherent light measurement with a single shine.

After an initial discussion of the limits of Moore’s Law, and how photonics helps to overcome this technological hurdle, Cees explains the practical differences, advantages, and disadvantages between photonics and electronics.

On the plus side, the lightness – all puns intended – of photons means that far less energy is required in photonic systems when compared to electronics systems. The physical limitations – such as resistance – of shuttling electrons through ever-smaller circuits can be overcome when switching to a photonic basis.

The disadvantage of this, however, is that photons have no charge. Unlike electrons, which travel wherever charge and energy differentials direct them – such as in a wire or between electrodes – light is far more difficult to control. Other than in the simplest of optical fibres, where they are channelled using total internal reflection, photons go wherever they like. This is where photonics comes into play, integrated with standard electronics technology to enhance already existing systems, and to build new ones.

The first day-to-day application to adopt this technology is fibre internet, but Cees expects to see developments in this technology to provide faster, lower-power, lower-heat data communications between semiconductor devices and more complex photonic systems. With the amount of water and energy being wasted simply to cool applications like data centres, photonics can revolutionise these industries from both a sustainability and a technological standpoint.

Photonics can also be used for analysis and measurement applications. This is done by measuring absorption and reflection at certain frequencies, or changes in coherence or polarisation, which can be used to determine material properties, for example. Photonics used in this way can be used to detect substances, contamination, pollution, etc., but powerful light sources are required for the best performance of this type of testing – as Cees put it, “more light, more insight.”

For years, laser technology was monochromatic (single-colour) though extremely powerful, meaning that limited information could be gleaned using a single laser source – more colour means more information. The key innovation from SuperLight Photonics is the development of a wideband laser that does not use tuning or scanning laser technology – in a single shine, the output covers a smoothly continuous wide frequency range from 450-1500 nm at 12 W (average).

This enables a whole new level of light-based measurement, particularly for bio-medical imaging, food quality management, and industrial metrology, but also for applications like precision farming in combination with lidar technology. With a single light source, engineers now have access to a broad spectrum of coherent light, with a low enough power consumption to be used in battery operated devices. This enables better, faster light-based measurements that provide far more insight into the objects under the spotlight.

    Keep designing!

  • Messianic Viewpoint TV on Lightsource.com - Audio: The Book of Deuteronomy: Part 32
The Book of Deuteronomy: Part 32
With Messianic Leader J. Isaac Gabizon -
    https://bethariel.ca/
The Book of Deuteronomy is a masterpiece for wherever one turns, there is something; a life application to be learnt or a word of warning or of comfort. Deuteronomy has, as its first Hebrew words ; ēlleh ha-dĕvārm meaning these are the words, and so the Book became known as Devarim which means, the Words. This title suits very well the content of this great Book because it is in here where the Words of God take so much prominence as Moses constantly reminds the Jewish people to come back to the Word of God where they will find their origin, their purpose and the proper way to worship their Creator.
Historical references flow through this book and prophecies fill it, especially Messianic prophecies. Some of these prophecies are clearly stated, while others would be difficult, even impossible to comprehend, if we were to remove Yeshua from them. So let’s discover more of the Messiah and the history of the Jewish people in this fifth book of the Torah.
