Ian McKay was appointed the L.R. Wilson Chair in Canadian History at McMaster on 1 January 2016. Two of his recent books, both co-authored with Jamie Swift, have focused on peace and war in twentieth-century Canada: Warrior Nation:  Rebranding Canada in an Age of Anxiety (Toronto: Between the Lines Press, 2012) and The Vimy Trap: Or, How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Great War (Toronto: Between the Lines Press, 2016).

Dr. Tony Porter’s research explores how numbers increasingly are displacing or complementing words, as with numerical rankings and indices, risk models, algorithms associated with Big Data, numerical tracking technologies such as bar codes or Radio Frequency ID tags (RFID), and digitization more generally.

Dr. McDonald is a specialist in Russian and Soviet History. Her areas of interest include social and cultural history, micro-history, film, agrarian studies, violence, and animal studies. Her articles on peasant rebellion and on banditry in Riazan have appeared in the Journal of Social History and Canadian-American Slavic Studies as well as the edited volume, Contending with Stalinism: Soviet Power and Popular Resistance in the 1930s. She is the author of Face to the Village: The Riazan Countryside under Soviet Rule, 1921-1930 (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2011).
