Publisher's Summary:
Lincoln's Diary is a fast-paced story about a young woman's determination to unbury secrets, including the disappearance of a private Lincoln diary her mysterious grandfather once owned. And when she hunts down a professor who likely swindled her mother out of it so he could prove Lincoln planned his own assassination, she's accused of his murder. Running from police and a stalker who's bent on destroying any evidence the diary exists, Sarah turns to the only person she trusts - herself. And when taxed to her limits, she turns to strangers for help - only to find betrayal pushing her to the breaking point.
Critic Reviews:
"A truly electrifying suspense novel based on a young woman's risky search for an immensely valuable diary of Abraham Lincoln's, purloined from her inheritance." (Hank Searls, author of the best sellers JAWS 2, Overboard, and The Big X; creator of TV's Metropolitan Squad series starring Leslie Nielsen)

Lincoln's Diary: Enjoyable Read, Left with Unanswered Questions
Sarah, the primary character, starts out exploring her Grandmother's attic shortly after her mother's death. She wants to know who her father was, and who her grandfather was. These two men were absent from her life. She finds her Grandmother's journal from which she learns her Grandfather's first name. Sarah then learns that shortly before death, her mother sold a document and possibly a diary written by Lincoln to a professor in California. She heads to California to find out what was sold. Soon after, Sarah is the prime suspect in the professor's death and people are after her for her Grandmother's journal and Lincoln's diary. As if that were not enough, she also learns her grandfather was murdered 50+ years ago, and his death may have some connection to the present day murder investigation.
I did have a few key problems with the story. 1) Why did Sarah head across the country to California to meet with the professor who bought something from her mother? Unless she was just looking for an excuse to get out of town, this just didn't make sense to me. 2) After the present day murder is solved there were some loose ends. Either they were not addressed, or I missed something. Was the person who murdered the professor the one who was stalking Sarah and trying to get her Grandmother's journal? If not, the author didn't wrap up this part of the story. If it WAS the same person, there are things that don't make sense - but I don't want to go into a spoiler. 3) The professor's murder is solved. The grandfather's murder is solved, to the extent we know who did it and can form an educated guess as to why. The author then begins to explain who Sarah's father was and why/how he died. It takes several chapters to wrap that up. This part of the story wasn't connected to the rest of the novel and could have been left out altogether. 4) Some thins were just unrealistic. Hetherington (the homicide detective on the professor's murder) served in the army with Sarah's father during Viet Nam. Small world! And Sarah conveniently found someone who knew her Grandfather, and someone else who witnessed his murder... Over 50 years in the past.
Other reviewers have mentioned that Lincoln's Diary could have used a bit more time in editing.
