In Mark 12:18-44 Jesus encounters the Sadducees who have limited God based on their past experiences. They can’t imagine that God could have a better future for them than they’ve experienced in the past. Then Jesus encourages us to make sure we love God with everything we’ve got and to show that love for God by loving other people. Our love for God can’t ever be an excuse to be selfish. Finally, Jesus uses the example of the widow who gave a small gift that was a high quality because it reflected her willingness to give God everything she had. We too must be ready to give God our all, heart, soul mind, and strength!

As we look at the story of the Parable of the Tenants and Jesus' response to the Pharisees and Herodians about paying tax in Mark 12, we learn that here in Mark's gospel we're being challenged to think about whether we've really got God at the centre of our lives.
