The 1895-96 season promises to be an exceptional one for Amelia Peabody, her dashing Egyptologist husband Emerson, and their wild and precocious eight-year-old son, Ramses. The much-coveted burial chamber of the Black Pyramid in Dahshur is theirs for the digging. But there is a great evil in the wind that roils the hot sands sweeping through the bustling streets and marketplaces of Cairo. The brazen moonlight abduction of Ramses - and an expedition subsequently cursed by misfortune and death - have alerted Amelia to the likely presence of her arch nemesis, the Master Criminal, notorious looter of the living and the dead. But it is far more than ill-gotten riches that motivate the evil genius this time around. For now the most valuable and elusive prize of all is nearly in his grasp: the meddling lady archaeologist who has sworn to deliver him to justice...Amelia Peabody!
Don't miss the rest of the
series.

Not the same narrator
Would you consider the audio edition of Lion in the Valley to be better than the print version?
This version has an american accented narrator. If you are listening to the whole series, make sure to get the other version.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Susan O'Malley?
Yes, just not in this series.
Any additional comments?
I only listened to a few minutes, then found the other version of The Lion in the Valley.
Good book but?
This book is quite good, funny too, but the choice of narrator is baffling. What were they thinking? The only redeeming quality of this production is the book itself. Unfortunately, it is rendered nearly un-listenable by the amateur reading.
A great book
I really enjoy the Amelia Peabody series and happen to enjoy Susan O'Malley's Narration the best. I think she does an awesome job. So, to each his/her own.
Disappointed
Disappointed with Susan O'Malley 's performance. The voice of each character is almost the same.
Great writing
I am now starting book five and love this series. In some ways (i.e. her excellent command of language and humor) these novels remind me of P.G. Wodehouse. In reading the reviews I see there are some very strong opinions on which narrator is best. I have sampled both and I definitely prefer Susan O'Malley. Her narration seems just perfect for the dry wit and personality of Amelia Peabody. No matter which narrator you choose though, I'm sure you'll enjoy these novels.
