“Fishers of Men – Judgment and Grace”
Text: Luke 5:1-11
The use of fishing imagery when Jesus calls His disciples in Luke is familiar to us.  Fishing-related imagery is also used in other prophetic scriptures, usually in a way that judges the people.  Pastor Tim explores some of these and explains that Jesus reframes this imagery to provide grace, rather than judgment, to those who are “caught.”

“The Weeping Prophet: The Lone Voice”
Text: Jeremiah 28:1-17
Our series on Jeremiah concludes with his exchange with Hananiah, a national prophet. Up against Hananiah’s false assurances and flashy illustrations, Jeremiah remains true to the message that he was given from God. This passage reminds us of the importance of faithfulness to the Lord in our lives, no matter what happens around us.

“The Weeping Prophet: Tears We Know”
Text: Jeremiah 20:7-13
Jeremiah’s writings and laments come from his heart, sometimes portraying God as a protagonist and sometimes as an antagonist.  All the while, he recognizes that all his internal and external struggles can be brought before God.  Likewise, it allows us to recognize the reality of who we are and where we are in life can all be bought before God and can all be lifted up and turned into worship.

The call to repentance the Lord sends to the people of Israel through Jeremiah uses an image familiar to both them and us today; a potter. God wants to be with them on the path that He made so that they become the vessels He designed them to be.

“The Weeping Prophet: Tears for Salvation – August 3, 2025”
Text: Jeremiah 17:1-10
Where do we turn to for our help and strength when things get hard? The “weeping prophet” Jeremiah warns us about how devious the heart can in when seeking release from what is difficult and trying in life. He encourages the nation of Judah to turn from those desires to find themselves back in obedience with God.

“Unique Messages for Specific Times: Jude”

In this final week of the “Unique Messages for Specific Times” sermon series, we look at the book of Jude. This letter is a reminder that how we behave matters while claiming to be a Christian. If we act in a way that takes advantage of the gift of God’s grace, we diminish what we say about God. Jude calls those in the Church to live with love, grace, and mercy in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ without taking away His glory.

“Unique Messages for Specific Times: Philemon”
In his letter to Philemon, Paul invites us to live graciously and lovingly towards the people around us – brothers and sisters waiting to experience and receive Christ in their life.  We have the privilege of being part of that work, to help them receive the saving power of God that will free them to sin no more.

“Unique Messages for Specific Times: 3 John”
We continue with our series looking at smaller New Testament letters which were written directly for their audience but still contain a message for us today. 3 John remind us of the ways in which hospitality towards those we consider foreign or strange is at the heart of Christian love and the Christian walk.

The world can tell a lot about someone based on how they walk. The letter of 2 John is all about how we should walk as Christians, following the greatest commandment to love our neighbors, even in the midst of those who act against us.

Text: 1 John 2:18-29We begin a five-part series examining New Testament letters written to the early church at a particular time in history and looking through the language of their times to find the message of the Good News that still applies to us today. Our first passage from 1 John has often been read contemporarily with fear and trepidation but should instead remind us that hope is found in Christ’s eternity and is greater than the fears of tomorrow’s uncertainties.
