This sweet story will help kids and parents alike.
This sweet message is relatable and simple enough for a child to fully comprehend. It will help them deal with loss - a concept they often find difficult to understand and process - but furthermore, it looks at grief and death from a perspective I'd never even considered as an adult. We've been blessed not to have dealt with this yet since our children were born, but I've already heard many instances of this book really turning things around for grieving children. Unfortunately though, loss is inevitable, and I'll be sure to have my copy of The Cookie Jar Parable nearby to read to my kids when they need to hear it.
Such a sweet book that addresses a child's loss of a grandparent
The story is not very long, but great for reading to a child that has lost a grandparent. When my mother died, we didn't find a lot of good books for talking about death with my then three year old son. I love that it shows that it's ok to be sad about the loss, but it's also ok to still find joy and be happy. It's been over a year and a half since my mom died and my son still talks about her and asks why she had to die. I hope this will help him with his ongoing journey through grief and understanding death.
Because we all need a little help discussing difficult issues with our kids
"The Cookie Jar Parable" provides a perfect platform for discussing the death of a loved one with the pre-school and early grade school set. It's easy to assume that children aren't processing the passing of a family member, friend, or loved one as painfully or fully as adults, when the reality is that they are processing it, but with far fewer tools. This book is both an honest and hopeful look at death and grief, as well as an excellent opening for a deeper discussion with a child about what it means to die.
Accessible, honest, and kind. A winner.
I wish I had this book when my dad passed...
This is a lovely short story for young children that can help them process the passing of a loved one. I think it would have been quite helpful for my then 3-year-old when my dad passed - I had a hard time finding any books that were appropriate for her age. I also like that this is a parable and talks of Heaven, a concept that is very comforting for my kids. Thanks, Stephanie, for your sweet book.
A perfect story for a child to understand
When my children have lost a loved one, we turned to books to help them understand what was happening. The Cookie Jar Parable is a beautiful story of a grandmother explaining death to her grandson, and would be a perfect gift for a child who has lost a grandparent. My kids and I love this book!
