Frightfully Delightful!
Draculiza is a vampire girl who wants to be a princess but her looks and personality don't fit the princess norm. This is a funny and charming parable about discovering the value of your own idiosyncratic self. And the illustrations are wonderful!
Who I am is just fine -- a great message for little kids
This is a really sweet book that offers a fresh take on the whole princess tale. Draculiza is a vampire girl who wishes she could be a beautiful princess with long blonde hair... She sets off with her pet bat to achieve this goal, and along the way discovers she's actually happiest just being herself. Highly recommend!
Highly Recommend!
This is a wonderfully written, engaging, imaginative book with a powerful, positive message for girls. My daughter loved it and recommended it to her friends
A simple idea and a sweet story, with charming art
Cedar Grove Books is a new US press producing childrenâs and Young Adult books, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Mysteries and even some graphic novels. Theyâve got some cool looking stuff out already, and more on the way â including this entertaining little gem, Draculiza.
For starters, I loved the idea of a little vampire who wants to be a princess, and then is told she canât be one because she doesnât look right for the part. She determines to apply to the Fairy Tale Association anyway, puts on a disguise and sets about doing what she can to become a princess. (âThis is not right. Everybody has a little princess inside them, and mine wants to come out now.â)
The most fun is had with Draculiza in her disguises getting into all the fairytales and making a mess of them â I admit I wish there was more of that â but of course, fairy tales have strict rules and things really arenât working out. After spreading havoc far and wide â and being cheered up by her faithful little bat Spike â she has an epiphany of sorts. (At least for now.)
Itâs a simply idea and a sweet story, with charming art, about knowing who you are and being really good at that.
Fun princess alternative
A fun, clever and great story or family reading time, Draculiza is a fresh take on the princess theme so prevalent in childrenâs books.
Instead of focusing on making Draculizaâs wish come true, author Bianca Bagatourian focuses on whatâs really important â Draculiza learning to love what makes her unique and great!
The great thing about Draculiza is it also allows little girls who are curious about the whole supernatural/vampire trend in pop culture to take part like the big girls without any questionable material or messaging.
Parents should be warned that their kids may want a pet bat. Mineâs did!
