Pragmatic Idealism

Although based on a case from nearly twenty years ago, the principles and processes are still spot on for leaders, administrators and other "people who want to make it better." When someone plays a pivotal role in taking a hospital system from the bottom twenty percent to the top ten percent (and even higher) in less than a year, I think what that person has to say is worth hearing. The organization is sensible and the lessons are drawn clearly.

What I found to be one of the greatest nuggets: "We improved customer satisfaction by focusing first on employee satisfaction."

Anyone interested in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) should definitely read this book. At least twice...

Well worth your time and effort.

Al does a great job of providing a convincing outline for a formula to improve customer satisfaction and then comes behind and shows you step by step how they did it. I found it easy to read and extremely applicable to real life. It is a must read for any hospital executive and leadership team.

Common sense is rarely applied. The authors loving description of his organizations road to simple happiness is easy to read and inspiring. Not so much a how to but plenty of sign posts for an organization to start down the path.

Where does Infinite Vision rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I don't particularly enjoy books of this genre, but since some people involved with Aravind are also part of our small company, I figured it would be good to read it. If I were into management and business, this would probably fall near the top of my list.

The voice of the narrator makes me want to punch somebody. I don't know how to describe it - maybe cheesy "sage-like"? I realize this is about an organization in India. Was it really necessary to get a narrator with an Indian accent?

Just permission to go bankrupt

I got this book because it advertised itself as explaining how to "turn around a troubled small business." It turns out that the only solution that Manchee has to offer is bankruptcy. There are hardly any useful suggestions for how to turn your business around if you are barely braking even, and only addresses situations where people were so deeply in debt from irresponsibility or unfortunate circumstances that there was no solution for Superman William Manchee to step in and tell them to declare bankruptcy. Awesome. My business is not in debt and has not missed any bills, but profits have been less than stellar. As a responsible borrower and business owner who is looking for tips to improve my business and avoid needing Mr. Manchee's services, I found the book extremely depressing. Unless you're already planning on filing for bankruptcy and just need permission to do it, then skip this book. You will be worse for having read it.

He mentioned some interesting things on bankruptcy protection. But frankly I got bored with it and put it down.

Chapter 11! Chapter 13!

The book is well spoken, one of the less annoying narrators I've heard. Its a good subject, but all from an American lawyer's point of view. So there's a lot of talk about USA bankruptcy terms that are different elsewhere in the world. Going on about Chapter 11 & 13. So I'm listening to hours of this , hoping for some useful info, not lots.

But essentially I'd recommend this to a small business in the USA thinking about going bankrupt or trying not to.

Really useful and accessible overview

I have really enjoyed the books I have listened to in this series. What You Need to Know About Leadership may be just an overview of the subject, but it is surprisingly inclusive, very accessible, well read and the design of the book with overview, who you need to know, and practical examples means it is eminently listenable to. For me is supplements my other reading on the subject, suggests other authors I can be reading (or downloading audio books for). I am studying an MSc at the moment and can thoroughly recommend these books as a supplement to your other reading.

Excellent book that clearly covers many areas of leadership. This author also gives reference to many other valuable sources of information.

I highly recommend this book as despite the many published and some rare great training available this book says it.

Jeff and Liz are both highly informative in this book. If buying you must take it as it's shown. It talks about leadership and gives you the knowledge to go further into your own study.
