Amazing book. So well written by an author who knows her stuff!

Dangerous to Know

Margaret Yorke's books are a treasure, a model of the cozy English mystery, but they are not simplistic. She always manages a twist.

Good story

I enjoyed this story told of a fragile woman caught in an abusive relationship to a narcissistic cold man of a husband. It started out by laying the groundwork of their unhealthy relationship and started to build up to a climax. However, at that point the story did not go the direction I expected it to. Without giving away too much, I'd just say I wasn't exactly disappointed with the ending, however I was anticipating it to go in a more sinister dramatic direction towards the end rather than the way it did. Overall, I did enjoy it and would recommend. It's short and was a quick read.

Dangerous To Know is the second book in the Natalie King Forensic Psychiatrist series by Australian author, Anne Buist. As it follows on almost directly from Medeaâs Curse with many characters in common and minimal recap, readers will do well to read that book first. Readers who enjoyed Medeaâs Curse will be sure to find this one even better.

Natalie King, a Ducati-riding forensic psychiatrist who dares to be very much the non-conformist, has some mental health issues of her own: her bipolar disorder has seen her admitted to the psych ward. Her professional supervisor counsels toning down her life a little, so she heads out to a stilt house on the Great Ocean Road, intending to take up a research position at the Geelong University campus.

Professor Frank Moreton is to be her research supervisor, but she soon finds herself giving unofficial peer support to an understandably anxious man: Frankâs wife, Alison (with whom Natalie has, inconveniently, some adverse history) is almost eight months pregnant; Frankâs first wife died of unexplained causes the week before she was due to give birth.

On top of this, regular trips back to Melbourne are necessary to see her patients, in particular, a woman soon to be tried for the murder of her three young children. Great book under $8

Seconds to Live continues the story of the Barrett family, this time letting us into the life of the families youngest son, Mac. Mac thinks of himself as the black sheep of the family, mistakes made in his teen years have left him feeling he is a disappointment to his siblings. He has been avoiding his home town and trying in his own way to make up for his perceived mistakes. Mac returns home to be with his dying father and along with Stella Dane, a homicide detective he has history with, becomes embroiled in the search for a killer.

This was a well written and enjoyable story, but I did find it slightly more predictable than the authors other novels.

The book had very likable characters and the development of the romance between Mac and Stella was appealing but rather rapid in its professions of love., but then again they did have a past history. I really enjoyed the layers of Mac's personality and the complexity of his relationship with his siblings. Overall the story-line was an entertaining read with enough twists and intrigue to keep you hooked.

Cris Dukehart was very good with the delivery of the syory

Great book but terrible narration..

I absolutely love Ms. Leighs murder mysteries and I hate when they end. I can never figure out who the bad guy is until the hero or heroine does, very near the end of the book. I like not being able to figure out who-dunnit early in the book.

Another thing I really, really like is the romance is without angst or misunderstandings. Thats awesome. I hate when a 300 to 400 page book is just full of that crap and nothing to go with it. This one was great in not having that kind of nonsense.

While Mac and Stella fell in love there was all kinds of mystery and murder going on. And they were a great twosome; Stella being a cop and Mac being trained by his insane father in the art of warfare. Geez, what he and his brothers and sister went through as children was totally crazy: their father throwing his paralyzed self into the pool and making Mac save him from drowning, AND Mac was 11 years old. Who does that? Ms. Leigh gave you more than the murderer to hate.

It was very nice that Grant, Ellie, Brody and Hannah were in this book. Its always nice seeing old friends. I liked Lance, too, but he was kind of messed up. He did have enough smarts to quit the force when he realized it. And, Captain Horner was just an ass. All he cared about was how he looked on TV during a press conference.

Love these books.

The storys are well written and entertaining I was glad stumbled on to them. I love mysteries and animals.

Hum, somehow this did not "jive". I usually enjoy a little nonsense book. This was creepy. I believe it was the cats conversation's? Somewhere near the end, it was stated humans we're slow but coming along. Another cat was training it's human. It turned into a

5 Star Start, Wowed.

It's rare for me to give the highest rating to the start of a series. I'm reserved because usually the characters don't quite mesh or the mystery is an easy one that will build in upcoming books. But, wow, this one is a grand exception. The way Jackson describes the relationships makes the reader feel like you already know the personalities and just can't wait to learn more about them. He delivers with this as well as the character development is deep and engaging. There isn't a single page that was boring; the suspense is dark and intriguing. The mystery had me foiled to the very end. The downside is having to wait for the next installment. Oh, and if you like soccer at all, this book has enough thrown in to really make it worth the time to read it. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys British detective stories.

Surprised by how Good It Was

I bought this beginning of a new series with low expectations. I almost stopped after the first chapter, because it started off somewhat silly and scary. I wanted to read a police procedural -- not a horror story. But after the first murder, and the introduction of detective Nathan Cody, I was hooked and enjoyed this listen from that point forward. The narration was excellent.

I hope I won't be waiting too long for the next installment. This is my favorite type of book.

Great start to a series

If this is the start of a series, I'm all in. Really engaging damaged hero, with smarts, guts and a horribly nightmarish past tackles a serial killer with a macabre literary sense. Meanwhile he's been partnered with a former lover - now engaged - and his own PTSD driven explosive behavior has driven his own fiancé away for good. A very good read, well worth the credit. Ready for another.

Loved it!

I tried the book on a lark (ha, ha, pun intended -- read the book and you'll see why), and I am very glad I did. I enjoy thrillers. I also enjoy humorous books. Books and movies that combine both are irresistible.

The plot had twists and turns, the characters were compelling (no cardboard cut-outs here), and the narration was perfect.

I am eagerly awaiting the second book in the series!

Whine whine whine

How could the performance have been better?

The Narrator has every female whine (an attorney whining? Are you kidding?) and half of the male characters sound like half drunk men in their 60's with the same gravelly voice regardless of the character's age - she even gave Grace the drunk gravelly guy voice a time or two...Grace is a young hot female.

Any additional comments?

I liked the story. It's my kind of story. Overall it was worth my credit, I would just really like the narrator to stop whining or sounding like a drunk old man.

The narration was cloyingly irritating. The characters were one dimensional and the story dragged along. Strange details completely irrelevant. A waste of a credit compared to other books by this author.

The busiest vacation ever

I have a deep affection for the characters in this book and count on "meeting" them with every new addition. Whether like me, you read every #1 Ladies' Detective book or are only an occasional consumer, this one, like the rest, balances a good detective story with a heartwarming subplot. We love the main character Precious because we want to be like her when we grow up: perfectly imperfect.

A very satisfying visit to Gaborone!

I feel the author put his best effort into this book and it is possibly my favorite of the series. It is a wonderful visit to Botswana which includes plenty of humor, many bits of wisdom, much love, and we see real personal growth in our friends. I'll listen again soon!

Wonderful, marvelous, fascinating!

I started reading the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency series 4 years ago. This is Book 16 in this wonderful series. All 16 of the novels are in my Audible library, Be aware that although the novels are considered of the mystery/thriller genre, there is no suspense, little action, and only mild mystery.

What this series has is wonderful personal stories set in the African nation of Botswana. Character development is complete. This series usually appeals more to women than men (I'm a 72 year old man and I love and cherish the stories of Precious Ramotswe and her family and friends. And her detective cases.).

Lisette Lecat narrates on of the stories. She does a great job and her accent continues to fascinate me.

A delightful entry in the series

I found this to be one of the most enjoyable entries in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

This story was fantastic . At first I thought it was crazy for this book to have been written by Jabbar .

Has All the Hallmarks of a First Book

Mycroft Holmes is a book made up of tropes, and poorly executed ones at that. I have two theories about how this book came to be. The first is that it's a marketing driven book; find someone famous to write it (Kareem Abdul Jabar), have them write a well known, public domain character (Holmes), and put a twist on it to make it new (write about Mycroft instead of Sherlock). The second is that Mr. Jabar wanted to write a book about Mycroft Holmes and his co-writer and editor were unwilling, unable or didn't care enough to fix all of the mistakes and clunky writing he produced.

Mycroft Holmes is a public domain character, and as such, anybody can write about him. However, there is some established canon around him, and an author would do well to pay attention to the most pertinent details of such. While I'm not sure this book would actually be improved by changing the main character's name, it would at least make expectations more manageable.

The writing is clunky, the characters' motivations are nonsensical, the deductions are crude and often tenuous, and the tropes are clichéd. The only thing that is any good is the narration, and even that gets muddled up sometimes when the narrator uses the wrong voice when a character is saying something.

All in all, a disappointment.

Finally a good Mycroft story!

Loved this young Mycroft and his first adventure afar that help develop him into the character he will be in the Sherlock Canon. Highly recommend to and Holmes fan. Reader is awsome and couldn't stop listening to the story.

Bravo...Bravo Karem! I was disappointed that the book ended...I need more, please. Well written and very descriptive. I, like many, had not read a lot sbout Sherlock Holmes older brother, Mycroft Holmes...thank you for giving him breath...He's ALIVE...at least in my head and heart. Thanks again for such a great read. Looking forward to THEIR next great adventure.

Out of sorts Alec Blume sorts it!

Alec Blume goes for a restful retreat in a quiet italian village, well away from Rome, but is unsettled there, and ends up investigating the disappearance of a Romanian bar girl. Excellent narration and an engaging story with Blume and his issues at the centre. Well worth a listen for fans of both Conor Fitzgerald and Saul Reichlin!
