A good read.

An excellent book, it is recommended to have read all the previous books in the series to fully appreciate the story. Très bon livre mais il vaut mieux avoir lu les autres ouvrages de la séries pour l'apprécier pleinement.

The theme is a little exhausted

Does not reach the same level as the previous "Servaz books": the plot is not as consistent and the language is not as refined

narrator was good however the analysis seems one-sided. it was mostly about the criticisms of the book not as much character analysis and plot development. I am tempted to check out the other analysis on this to see how it differs.

The fact that we ( My husband and me ) found it. We thought we had heard everything of this author's on audio.

IT was vintage MacDonald, although the main character ( sorry, forgot his name ) was not quite as likable as Spencer and other MacDonald characters. Redeemed himself at the end, though.

Very last one.

Cry just once. Not my hubbie though. We listened together in the car.

We both thought the reader was quite good so no idea why one person gave him a bad review. To each his own, I guess.

Good early MacDOnald

What made the experience of listening to A Bullet for Cinderella the most enjoyable?

Delighted to find one of the author's books that I had not already read..or heard. Good stuff.

Tal...sort of an early Travis MaGee

Did a good job with the reading...especially the various voices. No problem knowing who was talking.

One very sad scene but...happy ending made up for it.

Another reader dumped on the reader. No idea why. I thought he was good.

The first JDM book I've had trouble finishing. Not even close to his best work.

Terrible reader

No range, same cadence for all characters, just awful. Story is vintage Macdonald though. Heavy accent and strange word emphasis was very distracting. Do not recommend.

Intriguing Crime Story Similar to the Works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

"I imagine a reasonable and logical hypothesis, which fits in with the general idea. And then, and not before, I examine the facts to see if they agree with my hypothesis." Well-written book with a 'Sherlock Holmes' type flair that made for a surprisingly good read. Great for classic mystery fans (like myself) and I would definitely recommend!

This book should be old enough to be found in public domain if you dont mind reading the electronic format.

I am currently reading through the book. The cover looks interesting but I was surprised that it is paper-backed - minor issue. There is no publication date on the inner cover, but I dont know what that means to not have one.

It seems like the person who translated the text paper-bound and sold physical copies of the book.

Some of the syntax/punctuation seems to be off, like a is present, which, to me, indicates a program was possibly used to translate the text but no one proofed the document. I dont consider this a big deal since it does not detract from the text actually says.

Fun read

This is a review of the free Kindle version.

Arsene Lupin is a novel about a thief and his plots to steal certain objects of art and jewelry from a collector. It starts at the collector's house where his very unlikable daughter is tormenting her secretary, Sonia. We also meet the daughter's fiancee, a famous Duke.

I will agree with others that the pacing is slow, but this isn't an adventure story, it's a psychological mystery as Lupin is slowly revealed to the reader. Lupin is an interesting character, but I do agree that I'm not possessed to go out immediately and grab all of the stories. A nice character, but the greatest ever, I don't see. I do like Sonia quite a bit, and hope she shows up again.

I find it interesting that the author had to have his Sherlock Holmes rip off character. Seems to imply he wasn't too comfortable with the strength of Lupin. Nice writing style. The humor of the Duke is very good.

Arsene Lupin

I have read all of Maurice LeBlanc's Arsene Lupin books at least twice, but I read them all in French. In fact, I still have them in a few different formats. However, this is the first time in English. I'm usually skeptical about translations, but this book is excellent. Of course, it helps to be able to know French, but the writing emulates the style of the writer and of the times. After all, it was written in the early 20th century.

What's interesting about Mr LeBlanc's character is that he grew to despise him... literally. Arsene Lupin was actually more popular than the writer and everyone wanted to know everything about the character. This annoyed the author to no end.

one of best crime/detective books right now

This book was excellent, the story was unique and very unpredictable and the subject matter is very current. The character development is paced and detailed well. You think this story is going one way and not only does it veer onto a different path, it successfully branches out to multiple and relevant facets that are seamlessly brought back together not only at the end but at certain points in the book -- which is very difficult to do in a novel. I was in a lull of crime novels and couldn't find another series or stand alone book to get into and this just renewed my crime novel fervor. Highly recommend this book.

Wonderful gripping story

This book had depth. The characters took a hold of you and I couldn't stop listening and wanting to know more. I want to know more still, even though the case was tied up nicely the writer could continue on with these characters.

Couldn't even finish it

To be fair I'm writing a review for a book I didn't finish. It is very rare for me to give up on a book. I'm one to hang on until the bitter end, hoping for a turnaround. I tried. I really did, but this book is pretty awful. The character development is so completely shallow and boring I could barely stay engaged. I repeatedly fell asleep while listening to this book and I finally just gave up. The plot is boring and unremarkable. I suppose there are some interesting elements to the story, but they weren't enough to save this book. I typically feel neutral about this narrator, but in this production her overacting was so extreme it was ridiculous. I can see how this book may appeal to some, but it's definitely not for me.

Worth sticking with...

I bought this book without reading what it was about, or the reviews, I simply listened to the sample, assumed it to be in my "typical genre" and started listening. I admit that much like some reviewers said, it is long. Although, not really as long as the writer makes it seem, due to what I can only describe as an odd detour about halfway in that takes you into a seemingly pointless tangent about the Kongo, gun running, and some other stuff that had me ready to give up too. (And frankly, never fully understand, or agree to its need for being part of the book). Since up until that point, I thought I was listening to a story about the kidnapping & possible murder of a teenage vlogger, the switch to corporate greed worked a bit, but then it just escalated to a place that almost lost me...

Easy listen, like an old movie

If your only experience with Perry Mason is the old TV show, the characters in the books are a little less polished, a little more worldly, and more interesting. These books are not classic fiction, but then there are times when I don't want anything but a distraction to make the time go by. This is especially on a long drive or when knitting a complicated pattern On those days these are terrific. Try one.

Comic book narration

What made the experience of listening to The Case of the Counterfeit Eye the most enjoyable?

Fun to have these stories narrated unabriged. They've gone for a retro radio production feel for the narrator, which is kind of fun. But the quality of the story gets a bit lost in the Superman style narration. Am a fan of the series, but don't think I'd go for this audible version again
