Our journey through the arc and pages of a book is often in the safe and knowing words of a narrator. But sometimes these friends, these guardians of our trust play games, they betray our literary friendship with lines on which we can’t rely. They take us into literary mazes turn characters we accept into those we mistrust, situations we know into something we can now only doubt. However, we still enjoy the journey; sometimes they make it so much fun there may be a happy ending. But often there isn’t. I did say they were unreliable. 01 - Short Stories with an Unreliable Narrator - An Introduction02 - The Lifted Veil - Part 1 by George Eliot03 - The Lifted Veil - Part 2 by George Eliot04 - The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman05 - Le Horla by Guy De Maupassant06 - Diary of a Madman by Nikolai Gogol07 - The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe08 - The Inconsiderate Waiter by J M Barrie09 - The Moonlit Road by Ambrose Bierce10 - The Diary of a God by Barry Pain11 - The Cask of Amontillardo by Edgar Allan Poe12 - An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce13 - Hearts and Hands by O Henry14 - In A Grove by Ryunosuke Akutagawa15 - The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe16 - The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce17 - Why I Live at the PO by Eudora Welty18 - The Other Woman by Sherwood Anderson19 - The Repairer of Reputations Part 1 by Robert W Chambers20 - The Repairer of Reputations Part 2 by Robert W Chambers

    Publisher's Summary:
Betrayal is perhaps the worst kind of human humiliation. Trust is given, words exchanged of steadfast support and suddenly for unfathomable reasons of family, loyalty, love or greater gain elsewhere you are cast aside. It’s difficult to justify and painful to receive. It can bruise lives and is often the cause of a need, a want, a desire for revenge. And by some measure this is not like-for-like or tit-for-tat, this is exacted for at a much higher cost. They say Revenge is a dish best served cold. Our classic authors who range from Edgar Allan Poe and Alexander Pushkin to Susan Glaspell and Paul Laurence Dunbar serve it up in many a manner, in many a style but always with relish. 01 - Short Stories About Revenge - An Introduction02 - Bernice Bobs Her Hair by F Scott Fitzgerald03 - The Cone by H G Wells04 - Hop Frog by Edgar Allan Poe05 - Mother Sauvage (La Mere Sauvage) by Guy de Maupassant06 - The Lumber Room by Saki07 - The Shot by Alexander Pushkin08 - The Caballero's Way by O Henry09 - Captain Rogers by W W Jacobs10 - The Signal by Vsevolod Garshin11 - The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky by Stephen Crane12 - Laura by Saki13 - The Scapegoat by Paul Laurence Dunbar14 - The Lie by Leonid Andreyev15 - A Jury of Her Peers by Susan Glaspell16 - Sredni Vashtar by Saki17 - The Hand by Guy de Maupassant18 - The Middle Toe of the Right Foot by Ambrose Bierce19 - The Cold Embrace by Mary Elizabeth Braddon20 - The Music on the Hill by Saki21 - Revenge by Samuel Blas22 - The Man in the Bottle by Gustav Meyrink23 - Behind the Curtain by Gertrude Barrows Bennett writing as Francis Stevens24 - The Iron Shroud by William Mudford25 - Mateo Falcone by Prosper Merimee26 - The Sentimental Mortgage by Arthur Lynch27 - The Octoroon's Revenge by Ruth D Todd28 - The Spectre Bridegroom by William Hunt29 - Revenge by Ambrose Bierce30 - The Vendetta by Guy de Maupassant31 - The Hounds of Fate by Saki32 - The Cask of Amontillardo by Edgar Allan Poe

My beautiful, creative sister, with her paint-splattered dresses and sunshine smile, took her own life. And I think they’re right. Until the day I get a call from a man with a very similar story. Everyone says his sister jumped too. But he has proof that she was pushed. And if she was, I have to ask myself: could the same thing have happened to Poppy? In the moments before she died, was she really calling me to say goodbye, or was she calling for my help? Was she really alone on that cliff edge? When Poppy’s friends tell me she had a serious boyfriend, I feel like I’m losing my grip on reality. If they were so madly in love, wouldn’t she have told me? Wouldn’t there be pictures of them together? And when I find the silver heart necklace he gave her, I feel sick. It’s the same silver heart another murdered girl was given in the weeks before she died. This can’t be a coincidence. Either I’ve lost my mind, or the man my darling sister loved killed her. And if he could charm his way into her life so easily, what’s to say he’s not already in mine?

    Release date: September 21, 2022

    Publisher's Summary:
