    Soulful Content and Voice
I first read David Benner's Soulful Spirituality two years ago and it changed my life. Never before had I been granted the freedom to explore Christianity as a journey of becoming more and more fully human. Benner's therapeutic experience combined with his own spiritual journey opened the doors to finding a new way to understand my spiritual self.
When I saw Soulful Spirituality had released as an audible E-Book, I immediately became excited to revisit the book that had changed my life. As an avid podcast listener, the audible version gave me the opportunity to listen to Benner's text during my usual podcast listening hours. Although Benner himself does not narrate, Chad Harrington's voice sounds as soulful as the content. You can tell that a lot of effort and focus was put in to capturing the essence of the original text.
The best part of this book is how it first establishes a spirituality of becoming fully human and then gives us concrete practices to develop that spirituality. It doesn't matter what religious background you come from or even if you have no religious background whatsoever. Soulful Spirituality offers 6 practices for all of us--Awareness, Wonder, Otherness, Presence, Reality, and Surrender. I wouldn't recommend listening to too much at one time, however, because it is so full of wisdom, you will want to ponder and consider each chapter.
Fortunately for me, I now have a version of the book that I can easily revisit year after year to refresh both my spirit and soul. I can't recommend this book enough.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, or narrator.
    Awful
This book reminds me of a sausage. The author has mixed together a potpourri of various religions, psychological "insights" and quotes from known saints and other spiritual people. But, it is a bad sausage. One has to strain out the gristle and bone chips to get anything out of the book. So not worth it. I did listen to the entire thing, painful as it was.
    hauntingly transformational
I loved the entire experience and I will be listening again and again and again..
    Challenging and Practical
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone who is wondering what spirituality is all about. Benner is clearly very knowledgeable about the subject and I was able to learn and be challenged by him.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Soulful Spirituality?
My favorite part about the book was that at the end of each chapter there are questions which allow you to digest the material and consider its impact for your life. It helps the listener to understand that spirituality is both personal and practical.
What about Chad Harringtons performance did you like?
The narration of the book is excellent and read at a very good pace, especially for a book that requires self-examination and critical thinking while listening.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book will challenge your thoughts about spirituality and give you practical ways to engage in your own spirituality.

    Spectacular Read
I have had the honor of knowing Amos Allinger personally and his life story will touch your heart deeply. Share this with your friends and family because at least one of them will need to hear Amos' story!
    Not what I was expecting
This was interesting enough to read but not at all what I was expecting. This is a book of Mr. Allinger' s testimony.
    Powerful read!
This is probably one of the wildest and most powerful stories I've ever read. Through it all, the author comes to find a truly divine relationship and share how to do the same. I would highly recommend picking up a copy!
    Looked sketchy.. wasn't.
Not sure why I impulsively bought this book, but I downloaded it and then read the whole thing all in one night. Just based on the title and the contemporary nature of it, it's not the typical Christian literature I gravitate to. However, after reading it all in one sitting I highly recommend this book to especially newer Christians, but even more mature followers of Jesus can benefit.
His ultimate teaching reminds me of the old school teachers that I know and love like Geanne Guyon, Francois Fenelon, or the Cloud of Unknowing. Not so much that he teaches, but that he came to understand the inner working of the Holy Spirit on a real and relational level. Fenelon and Guyon are difficult reads for this generation; this book contains all their wisdom in a simple and practical way. Perfect for the generation of A.D.D. and reality TV.
Amazing Book!!!! There is so much packed into this book it is unbelievable.
The honesty and truthfulness of this persons life is so refreshing. There was obviously supernatural happenings throughout the book to this person. As I read it I could relate. It was a powerful book and I would really like to see this book turned into a movie I think it would be phenomenal. The description of the near death experience was amazing. The minute I picked up this book up from my PO Box I went home started reading it and finished it that day!!! There are a lot of people I'm going to give this book to for Christmas!!!

How does the church portray the beauty of Christ?
The gospel is a theological message. But this message also creates human beauty - beautiful relationships in our churches, making the glory of Christ visible in the world today.
In this timely book, Pastor Ray Ortlund makes the case that gospel doctrine creates a gospel culture. In too many of our churches, it is the beauty of a gospel culture that is the missing piece of the puzzle. But when the gospel is allowed to exert its full power, a church becomes radiant with the glory of Christ.

    Publisher's Summary:
Why should you join a church?
Becoming a member of a church is an important, and often neglected, part of the Christian life. Yet the trend these days is one of shunning the practice of organized religion and showing a distaste or fear of commitment, especially of institutions.
Jonathan Leeman addresses these issues with a straightforward explanation of what church membership is and why it's important. Giving the local church its proper due, Leeman has built a compelling case for committing to the local body.
    Members Reviews:
Convincing... from someone who's been resistant
This author makes a convincing case -- from scripture -- that formalized membership in a local fellowship is desirable. The key for me was his point about how local church leaders need to know for whom they are responsible, and for whom they can practice church discipline. So, while members retain the ability to change churches, there should nevertheless be clarity about the congregation to which they belong at any given time. He makes other points, but I found these to be the most helpful.
I think some difficulty could arise for someone who holds to a theological position that doesn't match that of any local congregations, and if those congregations require doctrinal agreement for membership, as could be the case in rural areas. A conversation should therefore be had between the prospective member and the leaders of the local church of his/her choice, to see if they could permit membership despite their differences. If that fails, the person may have to sacrifice a little extra time on the road, or potentially relocate, to become a member of a suitable congregation.

    Best church membership book ever!
Probably the clearest, best book on the purpose and nature of church membership I've ever read (and I've read a lot of them). The analogy that the church is lot an embassy in a foreign country was genius.

Length: 7 hrs and 30 mins

    Publisher: Nancy Rynes

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
Nancy Rynes was riding her bicycle when a large SUV approached. The vehicle's driver, absorbed in texting while driving, plowed right into Rynes.
Suffering from severe spinal and head injuries, Rynes knew she was dying. At that moment, she underwent the first of two life-changing near-death experiences - her consciousness split between her frightened, injured self lying on the road, and an impartial, peaceful observer-consciousness who watched as first responders fought to keep her alive. Her second, more lengthy near-death experience came days later, during the surgery that attempted to repair her traumatized spine.
Rynes, a scientist and confirmed skeptic, was shown the wonders of heaven, experiencing joy, love, and beauty on such a grand scale that she wept at its magnitude. She then met and spoke with a being who gave her insights into life, love, and the wonders of spirit. After her tour of heaven, she was returned to her body to begin the long, slow process of recovering from injuries her surgeon affirms should have killed her.
In Awakenings from the Light, Rynes recounts the amazing sights of heaven, and explains the remarkable insights into life she returned with to share with others. She was gifted with a second chance - a precious opportunity to bring a little bit of heaven into her life on Earth. The wisdom she passes on could well change your life as well.
