So what does it mean when you have a lock on your phone in 2020?
To answer that question we will need to examine What the different types of locks are and some implications each can have. Some locks can be removed by carrier while others types are impossible to remove or modify. I’ll start by defining some terms that have become industry slang for certain 4G/5G smartphone lock cases.

Even with the slow adoption eSIM and its counterpart iSIM are set to be installed in the Billions of IoT devices predicted in the next decade including but no limited to smart cars, household appliances, medical devices, and smart city sensors. The allure of this new type of SIM comes from the low power requirements and small size compared to today's smallest removable SIM cards. Plus the enhancements security this new format brings will be needed in an even more connected future.
