Top End YA title for both quality & subject matter

Haven is most appropriate for an older YA age group. It has enough quality to make for an enjoyable read for older adults like myself. Haven uses the overlapping mundane & supernatural world as the base to develop the storyline and characters. It picks up a few months after Rogue in the Relentless series, and tells the story of Emma going out on her own to live in Sara's old home. Emma grows to love the community, and Roland in particular. Roland has grown & matured himself. There is no escaping the mating bond, even with avoiding most of the female werewolves in town for the annual clan gathering. What I like best about this book is that the main characters treat love & sex with the respect they deserve. Not enough YA books give healthy examples of what is a very important part of life for most physically & mentally healthy, fully-developed human beings. Murder, mayhem, evil & death, set in dystopian societies, are accepted by too many male adult publishers as appropriate YA subject matter, but a healthy, loving relationship isn't. What's wrong with that picture? I'd like to think that a book like Haven balances out some of that publishing dreck.

First audiobook was great!

This was my first audiobook - I picked a book I knew I loved and was very satisfied with the experience. I immediately purchased the rest of the series on audible as well. The narrators did a great job!

AMAZING

This is the fifth book in what is one of my favorite series. I loved reading the story, but can honestly say Caitlin and Zachary brought a little something more to the characters personalities to make this a truly amazing listen.

I love this series.

I can't wait to hear about the rest of the group. Their world is captivating.

Not necessarily. Having already read the kindle version, the compulsion to find out what happens next is less of a burning issue.

Good storytelling with a kinky side!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline and voices were excellent. The main character seems to have been ripped off a comedy stage! She is very humorous with the associated insecurities you would expect from a young comedian. The relationships between the characters develop nicely with a very kinky undertone. One warning though -- if bad language makes you squeamish, you should probably skip this one (your loss though!)

WHAT WAS THAT!!!!

Ok first off I NEVER give things 5 stars. If I like it it gets 3. If I REALLY like it it gets 4. To get 5 stars I have to have loved it so much that the moment it's over I want to go replay it. THIS book is one of those rare finds. Honestly I just finished reading 2 series that were both 6 books long and fairly dark and I wanted something based in a different world that would put me in a good mood. I nearly skipped this book until I saw how nearly all the reviewers noted how funny it was. So I caved.

All that said, I loved the book. I had me laughing so hard at times that my sides hurt. :). The authors find a nice balance between humour and realistic consequences. The one down side to this book is that it IS the first in the series which means that most of the book is focused on world building and character development. Also, there are a LOT of characters to meet and get to know and at times you have to be careful or they begin to blur together. But there is a story told fully here and it sets a great foundation for the future books. I can't wait to see where the authors take the story from here but in the mean time, I'll probably be replaying this one a LOT.

Simply WOW!

Okay I'm in love with the brothers. Jaymin and Jane are a powerful combination. The dynamic and chemistry between and and Willa is breathtaking, seriously I held my breath throughput the story. Oh my gods! I cannot wait for the rest of the series. The narrator was on point. Her style was very hypnotic; it definitely kept me inside the story. Made it really hard to put down the headphones .

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. The amount of brand names mentioned made it read like an ad for some sort of high priced mall than a book and, at times, it felt like Knight was writing her description around the product brand. Rachel couldn't even just grab a granola bar, it had to be a Nature Valley granola bar. She can't just use eye shadow, it has to be Maybelline and I actually had to Google what a Filofax was. Turns out it isn't some sort of manila folder. It's a planner. Why couldn't she have just said it was a planner?

Aside from that, Knight spent quite a bit of time talking about Rachel's family only to have them virtually disappear shortly after. Her parents were terribly concerned about her sophomore-aged well-being but also allow her senior-aged sister spend the weekend at a college with her boyfriend? That's absolutely bizarre. I may not be a parent, but I'm pretty sure that's a bizarre combination. For the first half of the book, Rachel had to ask her parents for everything, then all of a sudden she's staying after school getting stood up by a boy and going to the same friends' house her parents told her not to hang out with anymore to get ready for a dance. It was set up for there to be some sort of rivalry between Rachel and her sister, Sarah, but nothing ever came from that even after Sarah made the cheer squad and Rachel didn't. Mark was even more pointless than Sarah and disappeared before the book even really started.

Rachel was low-key threatened by mean girl, Arielle, since the second day of school but, not only does Arielle never fulfill any of her threats, she disappears. Benji and Rob showed up at bizarre times and Rachel's insta-love with them was ridiculous. The only reason Rachel knew Rob's last name was because of the back of his jersey and she's already writing her first name with his last? Alright.

Just my opinion.

This is a very well written story. A lot of emotion. I rated it a three because it is kind of weird with the whole magic stuff. However all around good plot. I really hope for sequels to the My Boyfriend is a Monster series. I would really like to see their stories.

3rd time not so lucky? (Contains Spoilers)

I was let down, after reading this because of the high quality of the previous two books. I found that while the character went through some bad stuff, she did some bad stuff, but in the end, it was never gone back to. She never learnt a lesson or found a way to do things better. A lot of novels have characters that begin at a point, where they then learn a lesson and then resolve their issues. Now although Iris gets back with her dream boy, they do not overcome their problems so who's to say that it won't happen again. Now I know that the world isn't perfect and we can't expect it to work, but leaving a reader with as much hope as the way it ended last time was sad.

As the previous novel had a massive plot twist, of Zeke doing drugs again, although not as bad, I expected to see some sort of way he overcame that fall. I expected to read more about the PTSD, which could have been the author's chance to bring awareness to others about this. As the novel was ending i thought it was the area where some meaning was coming through. The beginning of the novel had no substance, although it was clear that Iris was in a bad patch, we didn't read about how she was feeling only what she was doing. This novel didn't link back much to the previous one, as we didn't hear much about the other characters like Saskia, Anders & Seb, except in passing. This meant that it didn't feel as if it actually was the third book in a series, and it didn't seem much of a surf book, as the first and second ones did.

This is not to say that it was lacking in good stuff, it just needed more to make it a great book. It was good to get an answer to our questions and to be brought back to Fistral. There was one sentence that I absolutely loved and thought it made a fantastic ending sentence. "And when we are feeling brave and the waves are fast and clean, we will release the fins beneath our feet and take to the spinning skies for that dazzling, fleeting, blue air ride."

I think if I am allowed to give advice, it would be; bring us more substance and use the words as you did in this sentence, bring it to us in a compelling way and make sure the current brings us to your stories.

Even better than Blue

I read Air in one morning, ditching work just to be able to read it the second I received it in my Kindle account. I was super impatient to read more of Iris's and Zeke's story because I knew it would be good.

Although there's a lot less surfing this time around, if anything, the novel is even more intense. All the emotional drama, the well-rounded characters, the guessing about Zeke was what drew me in and I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

The first thing that impressed me was how the two protagonists were the perfect mixture of their old characters and a few new traits that instantly showed that a lot has happened since Blue, that they live a different sort of life, that their relationship has changed. It was like meeting old friends that are just changed enough for you to want to know what has happened since you last saw them.

I loved how the tensions between Iris and Zeke escalated subtly as the story developed, leading to an intense finale. Zeke's secret was alluded to masterfully throughout the novel, but never too obviously so that once it was revealed it was just as much a shock to me as it was to Iris. It felt so real, the way Lisa Glass had Zeke and Iris struggle with how they went from barely knowing each other to practically living with each other. Such a thing can be really stressful for a young couple and I thought she wrote it so well. All those little things that people annoy each other with, the tiny problems that just keep piling up.

The linguist in me was again thrilled with how authentically young the language sounded, the dialects, the slang, the surfing expressions, all of it. The writing style is so effortless and perfect for a young adult novel.

I respect authors that I can rely on to deliver because I appreciate how difficult that is. But with Air, there is no second-book syndrome. If anything, I thought it was perhaps even more accomplished, especially character-wise, than Blue.

Iâm sure Iâll be skipping work some time next June again when the third book in the series, Ride, comes out.

If you loved Blue you will adore this book too. Air follows their story as they go off to surfing competitions and promoting various surf wear labels professionally. I loved getting back into this world.

Air doesnât start right from where Blue finished, things that happened in between are mentioned throughout the novel to catch you up.

Perfect light reading

This is a charming book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has a wonderful ending and a fantastic narrator. If you're looking for something to escape the stresses of life, this is the book for you.

Just Ok

I had high expectations for this book after Simon, which I adored. That's why I have a difficult time expressing my opinion on this one. It took me a really long time to get into it, and while I'm thankful that I didn't end up returning the book, I can't see myself recommending it to anyone. Some of the issues discussed, like growing apart from friends and family when dating, was something I could relate to, but it felt like the theme was only partially developed, or like it was put on the back burner only to be haphazardly "solved" at the end. I don't know, perhaps I need more time to digest my feelings on this book. But I can't help but feel.....underwhelmed.

Not as enjoyable as I expected

I was excited to read this book after I read the summary of it and I was anticipating it for so long that the moment it was released I bought it right away .. sadly I did not enjoy this book as much.. Molly's character is so boring, although I related to her in a lot of situations but she is just so weak willed and I didn't see any character development in her through out the book, I think the diversity overload is what making people hype about it .. but there were some cute moments nonetheless

The narration is what kept me pushing through the book and finish it because the narrator was amazing and she had a wide range of voices, so yeah I don't think I can recommend this book to my friends
