Love me tender

I was amazed at how this book resonated within my spirit. Especially the chapters having to do with "learning to speak woman." In short this is a must listen, I was a bit confounded by an earlier review ridiculing this book that review could not be more wrong. This is a man revolution book in the spirit of Bly and John Eldredge, 5 stars.

Good book

this book covered some topics that godly men need to consider. I will visit this book again .

Worth it

I am a busy person and have a hard time paying attention. I tend to listen to my books 2 times a week for 30-45mins so it wasn't hard to keep my attention. So many of these books say the same things so I make sure I look for things that make it unique on its own. This book has those things that set it apart. Yes, it has some of the same things as other books but it doesn't have it own material. I plan on listening to this authors other books next.

In our macho/wimpy society, this is a good balance using what God tells us in the Bible what a man needs to be. This book does not tell you how to do it but the direction you need to go in, the Bible.

Listening Is Life Changing

Several years ago, when I first listened to this reading by Henri Nouwen in my car on my way to work, it didn't seem that big of a deal. But by the second day of listening on my commute, something happened. I noticed myself interacting with co-workers in good humor where only days before I experienced anger bordering on rage. Suddenly other people seemed transformed. I held the door for a woman, a total stranger, carrying packages at the mall and she said, "God bless you today." I stopped hating my job. I stopped hating the traffic on my commute. Externally, nothing in my day-to-day life was any better, but I felt better. Nothing outside me had changed, but something in me had changed.

Compelling

Compassionately read by the author in a way that makes what might otherwise be too removed from daily life into something that deeply informs. I am glad I listened.

No, this is my first.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It was addictive. Each chapter built upon the previous one. It was hard to take a break.

Any additional comments?

I gave this 4 stars in performance, simply because Henri Nouwen's accent can be difficult to understand at times. He is very articulate, but there are a few instances, that needed to be reversed and listened to again.

That being said, It is an inspirational and joyful book, filled with Nouwen's understanding of a loving God. There's something about his voice, though difficult to understand at times, that is like having your grandpa read to you. His voice is soft but firm, educational yet very friendly.

Memorable Read

Would you consider the audio edition of To Live Is Christ to be better than the print version?

I still love printed books and writing in the margins and underlining things, but this book is one that is great to walk or drive with and listen to over and over again, always gaining something new from it each time I listen to it.

What did you like best about this story?

Beth has such a great admiration and love for God and it shows in how she brings the books and the people of the Bible to light in her teachings and writings. I feel like I know Christ and the Apostle Paul so much better after listing to this book.

Which character as performed by Renee Ertl was your favorite?

This is not really an appropriate question for this book as she isn't reading in character parts, but she does read similar to the way Beth would have presented her writing, with emotion and thoughtfulness.

Any additional comments?

This is a great read for those wanting to understand more about the life of Paul and his passion for spreading the Gospel and living for Christ. You can know a little or a lot about the Bible already, either way you will gain from this book.

A book I will listen to again and again.

I must admit that I am hooked. I have listened all the way through twice and I can guarantee I'll listen many more times. I have always felt a special fondness and admiration for the Apostle Paul. Beth's deep insights have de-mystified his life and teachings for me, and I have come away with an even deeper feeling of endearment for him. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who desires encouragement to finish the race well.

Beth does it again

To Live as Christ, exceeded my expectation of a Beth Moore book. So many insights into the life of Paul. Every page is worth reading, I learned so many new things. Thanks Beth. The narration was not that great however. There were a lot of repeated phrases/sentences, mispronunciations, and once a starting over preceding with the word "sorry." One positive thing was the narrator's voice had a similar quality to Beth's.

Fantastic study

This study was far better than I could have imagined. I love the narrator's kind and easy to follow voice.

My new favorite Christmas book

Over the years I have collected quite a number of "Christmas books" - short little volumes written by pastors on the meaning, message and importance of the event and its celebration. This is one of the best. Written with Keller's usual precision and insight, using the story of Christmas, the reader is reminded of the Gospel and that it's message is both radical and needed. Thanks Dr Keller. I needed this.

The Christmas Book that can be read all year!

One of the very best books I have ever read concerning the real meaning of Christmas as well as what does a real relationship with Jesus look like.

Very Appropriate for the Holidays. A good listen without all the usual hype.

Enjoyed the narrator's delivery. Contents was informative and reassuring. Logic and history prevail. I had no issues with his facts and had to finish it all in one sitting.

Great Resource

I think what I like most about this book is the honesty behind it. Both Bill Johnson and Randy Clark are very open about what they've learned. They also talked about how their faith was built and how they struggled in some areas before as well. It's encouraging, and it humanizes them. I think there's a lot to be gained from hearing how someone else has been used by God in healing. Their other book, The Essential Guide to Healing, expands on a lot of the same content, and gives more of the "how to".

Great encouragement for believers!

It was a fascinating experience listening to Bill and Randy explain in detail their journey, as God uses them for healing ministry! They are so candid, it was encouraging to hear how God can use us when we are willing. They explain how they hungered for the gifts and then pressed in whenever they could to grow. The result...many many people healed, set free and touched by the love of Jesus.

I loved every part of this book. I will recommend this book to every friend I have. I can see someone saying, that's easy to do when you only have two friends! I do have many people to notify. I have been on self discovery of healing for approximately a year now. This is my last passion in life.

Amazingly Deep!!!

The first chapter alone will blow your mind and have you reprioritize your life. The remainder of the book is only for the brave. I am grateful for this revelation.

Challenging, revealing and beautiful.

I read the first part of Rick Joyners vision about 20 yrs ago. It really gave me insight into what's happening in the spiritual world. When I saw this book on audible I had to have it. It has left me full of wonder at the love of Jesus, who He is and who we are in this great spiritual battle we are consigned to fight in. The more we understand Him, the more we know Him. The more we know Him, the more at peace and effective we are in living the life he has called us to lead and the life we will want to embrace when we continually have the eyes of our hearts opened.

What made the experience of listening to Relentless the most enjoyable?

John Bevere is a gifted and blessed man of God. He understands what everyday Christians deal with...the devil, the mind, the world, belief. John gets it and God has used him to write about it. Personally, I have the read, the Bait of Satan, Undercover, Driven by Eternity, Fight like a girl, (Lisa Bevere) and Extraordinary. Now Relentless.

Every believer needs to read or hear this book.

i learned some important points that are eye opening & are not taught openly as they should be. we have been given the power to overcome but why dont ww use it? Because we either dont believe it or dont know how to use it. in most cases we have been taught to doubt that our prayers are not always answered. John brings out that we have been given the same power Christ has because we are one with hm.

So inspiring! Loved it!

Without wanting to sound cliche, this is just what the Doctor ordered! "Prayers That Bring Healing", authored by John Eckhardt, is an ideal gift in both hard copy and audio formats... I made sure I treated myself first!

Need Another Narrator (Preferably John Eckhardt)

I didn't too much like how Mirron Willis read the book. His voice didn't fit, and he paused too much while reading it. And how could someone narrate a Christian book by a Christian author and then narrate a book for homosexuals?! (Mirron Willis) otherwise, the book was awesome.

Excellent Material, Halting Performance

Revelations of the healing power of God and prayers to release those revelations based on the Bible permiate this book. I highly recommend if you desire healing and health for you and those around you.

The performance seems haulting and a bit overdramatic with the extrnded pauses between sentences and commas, but the voice itself is good.

A Great Faith Builder

This is an encouraging and very well put together book. The narrator did an excellent job. Teaches you so much on how to pray the Word for healing.

Let Go of Control

Despite the title laden with all kinds of connotations, this is a phenomenal book. The book is really the summary of a conference put on by Willard and his friend/mentee John Ortberg. The conference was for pastors of churches and it turned out to be Dallas Willard's last work before he died.

I listened to the audio of the conference (which was at least slightly edited from the conference) and flipped through the book, reading about half of it in review. The book is also cleaned up a bit from the audio version.

1. I'm currently on a quest to discern what it is about my conservative christian roots that is so off-putting to myself and others.

2. I've always been fascinated by Dallas Willard being such an influential christian while his day job had him in the philosophy department of a major university (USC). From a couple of comments from my Aunt who recently listened to this I decided to start here, at the end of his works.

If Dallas Willard had a church, I think I may enjoy it. There are 2 really important pieces from this book that make me think I would enjoy a community with Dallas Willard leading it.

1. There is a recurring idea letting go of control in almost every aspect of christianity. One of the most gripping examples is when he speaks of himself as a young pastor: "I thought the way to move someone was to make them feel, not provide them with knowledge." He has since learned that making someone feel is manipulative, and providing someone with knowledge is empowering. If there is any single piece keeping people out of conservative christianity, it is probably this one. He states the problem and applications in a few different ways throughout the book and states it well. Do your best and let go.

2. Willard (and Ortberg) puts a lot of emphasis on life now rather than life after death. "Your kingdom come... on earth as it is in heaven" so we are not leaving to go to heaven, heaven is coming to earth. I think between Dallas Willard and NT Wright's influence the conservative christian church is doing a lot better job of this.

John Ortberg was a big part of this conference. It seems pretty obvious his goal was to make Dallas Willard accessible and applicable to the pastors in the audience. I think he splits his time accomplishing that goal and also pulling the listeners back towards an organizational, application-at-all-costs misunderstanding of what Willard is saying.

Another great work by one of the leading evangelical minds of our time. The theological depth and breath in this exposition of our instructional prayer was thought-provoking and extremely well done. A must read for every evangelical Christian.
