    Author: Casey Tygrett
    Narrator: Casey Tygrett
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 6 hours 48 minutes
    Release date: December 5, 2023
    Genres: Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Christianity Today Award of Merit What if our memories are like shells we gather on a beach? According to pastor and spiritual director Casey Tygrett, 'We—and all those who have come before us—pick up the experience and we sense it: we feel its edges, notice its color, we smell the distinctive character (for shells it is the sickly seafood salt smell) of the experience, and we try to make sense of what it is. Is it beautiful? How would you describe the color—the tones, the shades, wrapped around the ridges and swirls? Has it been damaged? Does the hard edge scrape our hand, leaving a blemish or a mark?' How we hold and carry these memories—good and bad—is a part of what forms us spiritually. In this way we have a common bond with the people of Scripture who also had a sensory life, gathering shells and trying to make sense of them. Previously titled As I Recall, Casey Tygrett's writing in The Practice of Remembering explores the power of memory and offers biblical texts and practices to guide us in bringing our memories to God for spiritual transformation.

Originally delivered as a series of radio talks during World War II, the book seeks to present a common ground of beliefs that unite Christians across various denominations. Divided into four parts, Lewis begins by making a case for the existence of a moral law, a universal standard that points towards a higher power. He then delves into the nature of God, the concept of Christian behavior, and the transformative power of faith. Lewis employs logical reasoning, insightful anecdotes, and a conversational style that makes complex theological ideas accessible to a broad audience. 'Mere Christianity' has had a profound impact on Christian apologetics and philosophy, becoming a classic in the genre. Lewis's exploration of morality, virtue, and the essence of Christianity transcends its wartime origins, remaining relevant and influential in the ongoing discourse about the Christian faith. This enduring work continues to engage readers with its timeless insights into the nature of belief and the foundations of Christian thought.

    Release date: November 30, 2023

    Publisher's Summary:
In The Invisible Resource, Charles Fillmore outlines and describes in the most perfectly practical manner, the nature of the much-debated Kingdom of Heaven which Jesus Christ spoke parables about... as well the ways by which will or won't reach it. If you're curious to learn 'Jesus' recipe', and how to implement it in your own life to experience unparalleled levels of peace and prosperity, then this book was written for you. When you think of New Thought and its teachings, you may not picture a man born when the U.S. Confederacy still existed. Charles Fillmore, born in 1854, is one of the foremost theologians, philosophers, and thinkers in the movement we call New Thought today. A true American mystic who championed Christ's teachings, Fillmore’s writings and teachings were innovative and well ahead of his time. Fillmore’s interest in the connection between our minds and bodies helped promote now-mainstream practices like meditation and vegetarianism, as well as our understanding of health and spirituality. “He was downloading from the universe ideas that were later proven by science and medicine, particularly around the power of mind over body,” according to Rev. Ellen Debenport. “We know now that attitude makes a difference in our health, and placebos work because we believe they will, but that was radical in Fillmore’s day.” As one of the early leaders of modern metaphysics, despite our understanding of science having evolved tremendously over the past century, many of his writings still resonate strongly to this day.

  • The Doctrine of Repentance by Thomas Watson

    Title: The Doctrine of Repentance
    Author: Thomas Watson
    Narrator: Mark Christensen
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 4 hours 39 minutes
    Release date: November 30, 2023
    Genres: Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Repentance is not optional. It is not left to our choice whether or not we will repent, but it is an indispensable command. God has enacted a law in the High Court of heaven that no sinner will be saved except the repenting sinner, and he will not break his own law. No one can willfully continue in sin and expect to be covered by the blood of Christ. Even if all the angels stood before God and begged for the life of an unrepenting person, God would not grant it. The Lord God, compassionate and merciful, . . . who keeps faithfulness for thousands, . . . will by no means leave the guilty unpunished (Exodus 34:6-7). Though God is more full of mercy than the sun is of light, still He will not forgive a sinner who willfully continues to sin. Dying to sin is the life of repentance. The very day a Christian turns from sin, he must require of himself a perpetual fast. The eye must fast from impure glances. The ear must fast from listening to slander. The tongue must fast from cursing. The hands must fast from bribes. The feet must fast from unclean paths. And the soul must fast from the love of wickedness. This turning away from sin implies a noticeable change in the lives of those who truly follow Christ. Therefore let us, while we are on this side of the grave, make our peace with God! About the Author Thomas Watson, a 17th-century English Puritan pastor, served at St. Stephen Walbrook Church in London for 16 years. He married Abigail Beadle and had seven children, four of whom died young. Imprisoned briefly in 1651 for plotting to restore Charles II, he returned to his pastoral duties until 1662 when laws against Nonconformists forced him to preach privately. In 1672, he obtained a license to preach at Crosby Hall, London, where he continued until his health declined. He died in 1686 in Barnston, Essex. Known for works like The Godly Man’s Picture and The Ten Commandments, Watson was a devout Christian who faced hardships with unwavering faith.

    Publisher's Summary:
As the world entered the long night of 2020, Philip Yancey turned to John Donne's Devotions, a nearly 400-year-old manuscript, for guidance. In it, he found a trustworthy companion for living through a global pandemic--or any other crisis. As Yancey says, "Nothing had prepared me for Donne's raw account of confrontations with God." By faithfully and poetically rendering Donne's 17th century prose into 21st century vernacular, Yancey opens up this classic work to a new generation of readers. He presents these Job-like meditations on sickness and suffering, alongside his own reflections, in a series of 30 readings that examine the frailty of the human heart, the goodness and sovereignty of God, and the eternal hope of the Resurrection.

God in the Dock A brave, subtle, and sharp book about miracles, the science-faith relationship, redemption or man’s final destiny ”Lewis struck me as the most thoroughly converted man I ever met”, observes Walter Hooper in the preface to this collection of essays by C. S. Lewis. “His whole vision of life was such that the natural and the supernatural seemed inseparably combined.” It is precisely this pervasive Christianity which is demonstrated in the forty-eight essays comprising God in the Dock. Here Lewis addresses himself both to theological questions and to those which Hooper terms “semi-theological,” or ethical. But whether he is discussing “Evil and God,” “Miracles,” “The Decline of Religion,” or “The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment,” his insight and observations are thoroughly and profoundly Christian. Drawn from a variety of sources, the essays were designed to meet a variety of needs, and among other accomplishments they serve to illustrate the many different angles from which we can view the Christian religion. They range from relatively popular pieces written for newspapers to more learned defenses of the faith which first appeared in The Socratic Digest. Characterized by Lewis’s honesty and realism, his insight and conviction, and above all his thoroughgoing commitments to Christianity, these essays make God in the Dock very much a book for our time.
