Title: Operation Dragoon: The History of the Allied Invasion of Southern France after D-Day

Narrator: Colin Fluxman

Format: Unabridged

Length: 01:34:22

Language: English

Release date: 11-22-21

Summary:

While D-Day is one of the most famous events of the war, it is widely overlooked that about two months after the landings in Normandy, there was a second Allied landing in France. On August 15, 1944, a combined US-French force landed in southern France on the beaches of the Côte d'Azur as part of Operation Dragoon. In just over four weeks of fighting, the Allied landing led to the liberation of most of southern France and to one of the most audacious and successful Allied operations of World War II.

However, the planning that led to Operation Dragoon (originally named Operation Anvil) was anything but settled. The idea for a landing in the south of France had been raised by senior commanders as early as 1942, and at one time it was intended to be a concurrent operation with the Overlord landings in Normandy. However, the spectacular failure of the American landing at Anzio in Italy earlier in the year and an increase in the size of forces for Overlord meant there simply werent resources to spare for a second simultaneous landing in France. Thus, Operation Anvil was canceled.

With less a one month to complete the planning and preparation of a major amphibious operation, many on the Allied side were skeptical of the chances of success for this operation. However, the supply situation in northern France and growing political pressures within the Allies meant it simply had to go ahead. With that, on the morning of August 15, 1944, Allied troops began landing on the beaches of the Côte d'Azur. What followed remains a controversial part of the end of the war in Europe.

Title: Battle of Jaffa: The History and Legacy of the Last Battle of the Third Crusade

Author: Charles River Editors

Format: Unabridged

Length: 02:13:42

Language: English

Release date: 11-22-21

Genres: History, Religion & Spirituality, Europe, Islam

Summary:

By 1180, Saladin had consolidated his power in both Egypt and Syria, but he still could not join his two realms because of the obstacle that had once protected his Egyptian realm as a buffer zone: the Crusader States. He now decided to root out the Christian principalities from the Levant, even the Byzantines, though this was not a new goal. He had begun harrying the Crusaders and pushing them back out of Egypt even before he had finished establishing his power there. However, he had also allied with them against other Muslim rivals from time to time. With his triumph over his Muslim rivals complete, he now turned on his erstwhile Christian foes. Attacks on Muslim caravans and other violations of truces by notorious Crusader, Raynald of Chatillon (c.1125-1187), beginning in 1181, gave Saladin the pretext for this change in tack.

How much of this new call to jihad in the 12th century was genuine religious fervor for Saladin and his predecessors, and how much was cynical political aggrandizement, remains subject to debate. Either way, the Crusaders had an advantage in this kind of war, despite being decentralized in secular power and relatively weak militarily compared to their Muslim neighbors. Christian religious authority was strongly centralized by the papacy in Rome and the patriarchate in Constantinople. Christian religious authority, older and better organized, also had longevity that Muslim religious authority lacked. Perhaps most importantly, the Christians werent warring with each other, whereas the division between the two main Muslim sects, majority Sunnism and minority Shi'ism, played a huge factor in the conquest of Egypt and left the two sides downright hostile towards each other. In comparison, the division between Latin and Greek Christianity was only a century old at the time of the Third Crusade.

Format: Unabridged

Length: 01:10:08

Language: English

Release date: 11-21-21

Publisher: Authors Republic

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Health & Wellness, Naturopathy & New Age, Counseling & Inspirational

Summary:

I think I must be one of those persons who has been reincarnated. I never considered myself to be such a person but always had memories from before my birth, in my Moms womb, and my early childhood. One of my earliest memories was of being disembodied, looking down on the Earth, and recalling my many previous incarnations on Earth.

My story is included in this book as well as many other stories of people who have reported remembering from before their birth.

This is all closely related to the topic of Reincarnation and so this book covers that topic too. The history of Reincarnation, research on the topic, and many stories of claims people have about being reincarnated are in this book.

The belief in reincarnation has been around for thousands of years so this subject is not new. What Im trying to do in this book is provide as many credible stories as I can to provide the reader with more information to form your own opinion on this subject.

Also, some of the possible reasons for reincarnation are covered here too.

ABOUT NAPOLÉON BONAPARTE

Napoléon Bonaparte (born Napoleone di Buonaparte; 15 August 1769 5 May 1821), usually referred to as simply Napoleon in English, was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars. He was the de facto leader of the French Republic as First Consul from 1799 to 1804. As Napoleon I, he was Emperor of the French from 1804 until 1814 and again in 1815. Napoleon dominated European and global affairs for more than a decade while leading France against a series of coalitions in the Napoleonic Wars. He won most of these wars and the vast majority of his battles, building a large empire that ruled over continental Europe before its final collapse in 1815. One of the greatest commanders in history, his wars and campaigns are studied at military schools worldwide. He remains one of the most celebrated and controversial political figures in human history.

QUOTES SAMPLES

Victory is not always winning the battle...but rising every time you fall.

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

You don't reason with intellectuals. You shoot them.

The best way to make every one poor is to insist on equality of wealth.

The World is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good.

Courage isn't having the strength to go on - it is going on when you don't have strength.

She sighed. 'Look, Phil, I am too tired to even begin to imagine anything. Don't you get it?'

He squeezed her hands. 'Come on, Jessica. You know why we are here and what I want us to celebrate.'

'I know? No. You are wrong there, darling. If I did know, why am I so confused?'

'Confused? You have got to be kidding. How can you be confused inside a posh restaurant like this?'

'Maybe because my husband decided to bring me here without telling me why he was doing so.'

He grinned. 'Okay. I get it. You want me to tell you, dont you?'

'Phil. Enough of all these games. Why are we here?'

'To celebrate something really special.'

Her eyes darted around restlessly. 'Something special? Like what?'

'You mean that you cannot figure it out?'

'My dear, if I could, would I be trying to guess what it is?'

'Okay, I'll give you a hint.'

She grabbed his hands and held them together. 'Phil, my dear and darling husband, I know you might have the best of intentions by bringing me here this evening. You do, don't you?'

'Sure, my darling Jessica. I did it for you.'

'Good. So why not just be plain with me. It wouldn't spoil anything if you were. My day was hectic and, like I said earlier, I am only here because you insisted on us coming. Otherwise, I would have preferred to stay back at home and get some rest.'
