I dedicate this episode to Dr. Janell Green Smith, a woman who carried the torch and used her voice to advocate for Black mothers everywhere.
In honor of Black History Month, this episode of my public health series shines a light on a critical issue impacting the Black community in the United States: the alarming rates of maternal mortality and morbidity among Black women. These tragedies should not only trend when another life is lost, but they also deserve to be part of an ongoing, urgent conversation about what is happening in our own backyard.
In this episode, we explore the history of maternal care in America and examine how its legacy continues to shape the experiences and outcomes of women today.
