Everybody loves a good train song -- so that's what's happening this week (Nov. 12) on Listening Lyrics, as recorded on Amtrak train No. 11, the Coast Starlight.
Trains are used in so many metaphors in music and art -- listen to the sampling collected here. Check out the playlist and enjoy the train ride -- ALL ABOARD!
Hooray! Slowly the local music scene is coming back to life.
This week (Oct. 29) on Listening Lyrics we feature the music of four local bands that have gigs this weekend: The Gold Souls (pictured), Boca Do Rio, Big Sticky Mess and The Adrian West Band. Also in the playlist are some tunes to bring this hour to one heck of a close.
Today on Listening Lyrics (Oct. 22) we have incredible stories of guitars that were lost or stolen for up to 45 years, and were then returned to their owners. These four stories involve Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Peter Frampton (Humble Pie), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), and Randy Bachman ( Guess Who).
The photo shows Frampton and his guitar that was destroyed in a plane crash (or so he thought), and was returned to him 30 years later.

Neighbors night out in Davis is Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021. So in honor of this, Listening Lyrics features thoughts about neigbors, neighborhoods, and of course lots of "neighborly" music.
If you have ever camped near the ocean while surrounded by tall redwood trees, then this is an hour of music you can relate to. My cabin camping experience near Manchester Beach in northern California inspired today's (Oct. 1) Listening Lyrics.
It did happen -- a fox was spotted on a rooftop in west Davis. I heard about it and put a musical take on this, using the words "rooftop" and "fox," or a connection to it.
Take a listen on this week's (Sept. 17) Listening Lyrics.
Covid started and we ended up wearing masks. I really never owned a mask before but now I have a box of them in the house and many more in my car. So of course I had to do a show on masks -- not only the type I have in my box, but the masks we wear to present ourselves to the world or to hide behind.
Great songs will take us on the musical journey of masks.
Why do we kiss? Let's explore this with the aid of some mighty fine tunes, on the latest edition (Aug. 27) of Listening Lyrics.
This week (Aug. 20) on Listening Lyrics, I link the story of cats, theft and a special story about Sam the cat in Amsterdam. It all revolves around music.
