Tony: Hello, welcome to The Three Techs. I’m your host, Tony Tang tonight. I’m joined by the other two Techs. Bob Fairburn. Hey Bob
Bob: evening.
Tony: and Steven Bramson , hey Steven!.
Steven: Hi there..
Tony: Now last time we did a show about listening to music and it was just kind of a broad overview about how we listen to music these days through streaming how you might get started listening to music.
We’d like to dive deeper on that topic and talk about listening to music through headphones and earbuds. So I thought that that is probably what most people listen to music through. Especially if you are in a shared space, maybe at home, you don’t want to disturb other people. If you’re in the office, if you’re commuting on the train or a bus or anything like that, you’re most likely listening to music through headphones.
Bob, as far as listening to music through headphones, What do you have and what do you prefer?
Bob: You mean versus speakers or just the different kinds of headphones.
Tony: Well, I mean, maybe we can talk about that to start with versus speakers. Right? What is the main difference? Listening through headphones and earbuds versus listening through speakers.
Bob: In my opinion, typically the speakers. you get more, you get more feeling of placement of, of the , the how things kind of go together. You know what I mean? So that, that sort of that, that’s where that’s where I see the, the bigger difference.
Tony: Because the sound is actually coming from, in front of you from the pair of speakers.
And actually the room becomes part of the listening experience because the sound is bouncing off the ceiling, the walls
and the floor and everything.
Bob: Yeah. It’s like, well, that’s like, what I like to say is the elephant in the room is the room.
Tony: Right? Yeah. The room becomes part of the listening experience. So.
Bob: amazing. Yes.
Tony: And then listening through headphones though, everything is, I would say a lot more intimate, a lot more closed. Depending on the type of headphones you’re using, because literally the
speakers are drivers are inches from your ear, or sometimes
they’re even inside your ear.
Bob: Yes. Yeah. Big difference, big difference. So like right now I’m using in ear monitors for this just because of one, when we’re doing video, I can hide the cables. It doesn’t look as it doesn’t look as geeky, I guess. So.
Tony: Yeah, on camera using earbuds… it definitely is a little bit more low profile.
Bob: yeah, yeah.
Tony: So when it comes to listening to music, though how would you say, the experience is on headphones and earbuds then compared to speakers.
Bob: It depends on what you’re used to, but I absolutely love listening to music on headphones because it’s so mobile so I can take any one of the devices I have around me. So my cell phone with Either wired or wireless headphones, or if I want to step things up, I can carry some extra equipment around it and hav...
