Literacy rates are shockingly low in the United States—why?

The latest report on US Literacy rates are staggering, showing a growing number of adults in this country can't read, or can't read as well as they should. This comes as schools and families are still trying to make up gains lost during the COVID-19 pandemic in literacy rates, and experts are concerned about the other implications of these numbers.
