Jonathan discusses Castlevania 2, the true first Metroidvania game, and one of the first open-world experiences. It shows its age, but is still a lot of fun. Find it on the Konami Collector Series: Castlevania and Contra.

Jonathan and Nick discuss the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game The Elder Scrolls Online, a game that keeps faith with Bethesda's themes, atmosphere, and play style from the other single-player Elder Scrolls games. It's currently only pay-to-buy: there is no requirement for continuous payment. As such, it is definitely worth the price and time to play, and totally works even as a single player experience.

Jonathan discusses the Nintendo classic Super Mario Brothers 3, a great platformer, and a staple of the industry. It's a 2D sidescroller that still holds up. Available on the Nintendo store for 3DS, Wii, and Wii U.

Jonathan and Nick discuss the Double Fine game Massive Chalice, a new spin on tactical, turn-based, fantasy battles, including VERY long-term city planning. As usual, Double Fine does not disappoint.

Jonathan discusses Zelda 2: the Adventure of Link, the odd man out in the Legend of Zelda franchise, being an actual platformer. It's simple and compact, but successful and fun. Don't miss it.

Jonathan discusses Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain. It has some good story in it, and more glorious Simon Templeman, but is the weakest of the series, in puzzle and in writing. You can find it on Good Old Games gog.com.

Jonathan and Nick discuss Scythe, an extremely well-designed, fast-moving, competitive nation-building production/war game. It's very accessible, fast, yet complex. One of the best games I've played. This game is great in person, but feel free to check it out on Steam's TableTop Simulator, though the full digital version is very slick, and takes care all of the administration. It's shocking how good this game is. Get it.
