Many people today think too much of themselves and their stuff. They boast in vain things and seem to have it all. But we cannot use these things to glorify ourselves. We need to understand where they came from and use them for His glory.
Sometimes God has to bring circumstances in a person's life to bring them to prayer. Prayer is the most important thing a believer can do. But many times, it is the last thing we do; just as a last resort. It should be our first response no matter what is going on in our lives. Prayer is our lifeline to God.
Getting older is not for the faint of heart. Solomon realized that life is short and the years are flying by. If we remember the Lord now, we will try to do all that we can for Him while we still have the strength to. Those who remember the Lord throughout their lives will look forward to what is coming next.
Our Bible are not only just a collection of stories, but it also records true events and true stories that happened thousands of years ago. It's purpose is to reveal God to man, to show us salvation, and to show us how to live. It should be engrained in every area of our lives.
Someone once said that some are born great, some achieve greatness, or have greatness thrust upon them. But with God, greatness is who He is. It is in His nature. Because of His greatness, we should praise Him. Two reasons to praise Him is because of who He is and because He is worthy of praise.
Men aspire to have dignity and respect on this earth. Some demand this respect even though they don't necessarily deserve it. Presidents, Kings, and Queens may have the respect from everyone because of the position they hold. But what about Jesus? What kind of honor does He have? He is honored by God and deserves this honor because of what He did for us on the cross.
One of the sad tragedies in our day in time is that many people do not take time to listen. They want a summary of what somebody has to say. This not only applies to those outside the church, but is also the same way many approach the Lord and His Word. Hearing and understanding God's Word involves listening, paying attention, thinking about it, and applying it to your life.
Someone once remarked that our windshield is bigger than our rearview mirror. They are saying that those things which are behind us are not as important as the things that are in front of us. Looking at what is behind us will distract us from what lies ahead. We need to keep moving forward in our Christian life.
So many people try to change who they are. They look at their lives and say they need to change. But it's not just having a New Year's resolution or turning over a new leaf. What these have in common is that people are trying to change themselves on their own. Only Christ can change a person.
Romans is written for believers in what we have in Christ. We are all guilty until we come to know Christ. Sin, Satan, and the Law will try to condemn us, but God does not. God has provided a way for us to be made not guilty; justified, righteous, and free.
