LIVE: Creator's Diary

I’ve always wanted to create an anthem for Pop and his “Get Fresh” brand. Why? ‘Cause Juan “Popeye” Andino III has built something special during the last 20 years. He’ll tell you he’s only a barber, but the dude does so much more. From cuts to clothing, fitness to fashion, Pop is a hustler and over the years he’s even taken the time to promote what I do as a music artist. He’s let me hold clothes for video shoots, put my music up at his shop, promoted shows I’ve done, so making an anthem for his brand just seems like a no-brainer. It’s just a rough draft, but I finally have the foundation for the anthem. GET FRESH!!

So I’m starting to mix cover songs into my live performance. One song I especially like is “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay”. I made this instrumental, so I can perform it in my own way. I’m still working out some parts, but I think the foundation is there.

I was listening to the rhythm in Nipsey‘s voice while he was delivering his interview with Elliot Wilson and B. Dot on Rap Radar. It made me come up with this beat. Nip said a lot in the conversation. It’s sad to see a brother that had his shit all the way live have to go out the way he did. It hurts, and it’s scary as hell. Let’s you know this ain’t a game. This is real life. I call it for “For Nips”, obviously for Nipsey Hussle, but also, I get busy so I can go to the corner store and get me some nips. Know what I’m talking ‘bout.
