Alyssa Houseknecht is a brand strategist and consultant, helping small businesses create confident designs that produce income and impact. She creates captivating brands for the modern entrepreneur.
Lyss and I tucked ourselves away at an event to have a conversation of similar paths. She had graduated college and was expected to go the traditional career path. Although she had the skills and worked hard in the roles she was hired for, something was amiss. She felt like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole.
Through the grind of figuring out her place in a corporate job, she found joy in graphic design and branding as a side gig. Then, one day, she was let go from her day job. Instead of letting the shame of being fired consume her, she made the decision to create a work from anywhere lifestyle and make her side hustle her full-time gig.
In this episode, you'll be inspired by Lyss's story of courage to go after a career of her dreams. You'll hear how she helps her clients and works through the challenges of entrepreneurship.
Enjoy!

Books can have a tremendous impact on us personally and professionally. That's why in most of my interview episodes I ask my guest what book or resource has made the most impact on them. You can find many of the books mentioned in past episodes by going to the resource section of my website.
In today's episode, I share the book that, by implementing its lessons, I attribute to a major turning point in operating Scrivener Solutions.
I discovered Gino Wickman's book Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business early in 2021. In this episode, I share how I was at a crossroads in my decision in implementing practices outlined in the book. I was faced with the possibility of key staff members leaving. Should I invest the time, energy, and money into having them learn Traction with me to grow the business just to have them leave?
The way the book is outlined is a great guidebook to, if practiced consistently, truly makes a difference in the growth of any company at any size. I've recommended it to clients and I'm recommending it to you.
Listen and you'll gain perspective of how I swallowed my fear of losing valued staff and decided to make the investment to begin the process of implementing Wickman's EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System). I turned a corner of how I lead my team, my team has turned a corner in how they interact with each other, and together the company has turned a corner for big things to happen in 2022.
Enjoy!

I love having conversations with people at various stages of their business. You learn many fascinating things and gain unique perspectives on why they do what they do, what jazzes them, and know that they too have struggles.
Sometimes it's easy to feel like you're all alone in your journey and the resources are scarce to make your dream lifestyle a reality.
Way back in, probably, 2015 I met a wonderfully vibrant person. After that first meeting, I was always delighted to see her at other networking events. Over the years, we had lost touch. I was scrolling my LinkedIn feed and saw her and realized that she started her own consulting business. I was curious to see what she was up to now and asked her to come join us on today's show.
In this episode, you'll meet Mary Overbey.
Mary works as an ecosystem builder, a small business consultant, a micro loan broker, and a non-profit consultant. Borealis Consulting, LLC was born to bridge gaps identified within the small business ecosystem, and to assist business focused organizations as they strive to do the same.
Today you'll learn what triggered her to start her own business, what she struggles with the most only being two years into her newly founded business, and how she builds other businesses by connecting them with the resources they need to prosper.
I think you'll enjoy meeting Mary. This conversation was not only fun, but also eye opening on avenues of resources you may not have been aware of.

It's the season of making plans for the new year. Making plans is so much fun. It's like strategic daydreaming.
Planning is essential in business growth. You, as your business leader, must create the vision of how your future self will be.
Creating the picture of the future of what you'd like to see happen, where you'd like to go, what you'd like to do to serve your community is an exhilarating feeling.
Once your plans are in place, then it's time to implement. Reality sets in. You remember that the planning part is easy. It's the implementation that's the hard part.
In this episode, I touch on points that are plan implementation obstacles.
I'd love to hear from you and what you have in mind for implementing your 2022 plans.
Schedule a time for a 30-minute conversation. Not a sales call. Let's talk out your plan and perhaps through our conversation, you'll get some ideas to keep you on target for successful implementation.

The Scrivener Solutions team implement our client's content marketing plan. All our clients can work from anywhere. They've created their businesses where they aren't geographically tied to an office. They are flexible with their time and are strategic in deciding who they serve.
Our clients are at different levels of business growth and have different marketing strategies. Some of our clients are online course creators, some are speakers, and some are business consultants. They may use some of the same tools and tactics, however, each of their plans we help implement have a few differences.
But what is definitely the same with all of our clients and what steers them to success is they all publish consistently.
If you've listened to this show for any amount of time, you've heard me say that you must be consistent in publishing. I'm not just saying that just to be saying it. It's true!
The heart of the reason why you should be creating consistent content to grow your business is for people to get to know, like, and trust you. Building relationships takes work. You must create a system to consistently publish topics of value to those who you want to serve.
In this episode, I share a quick content creation plan that you can implement and is easy to commit to for 2022. If you wonder what should come first, clarity of messaging or publishing, this is a must listen.

This episode was recorded as I was traveling and experiencing first-hand the realities of working from anywhere.
What sparked the episode topic was a friend of mine is so excited to be getting a little RV and asked me how Robert and I managed to stay connected to the internet when traveling. In fact, over the past several months, many folks have asked us how we stay connected as they look into RV living.
In today's episode, I thought I'd share my experience and stories of staying connected to the internet and working from anywhere realities. This perspective can be helpful whether you want to venture out and do some RVing or just enjoying more travel.
Robert and I started our travel lifestyle in our 38-foot Alfa SeeYa diesel pusher RV in 2011. Although we don't travel much in our RV lately (because we travel and camp in much smaller vehicles) we still have quite a bit of experience when it comes to juggling work and travel.
The main thing we've learned over the years is that you cannot expect your work schedule and workflow to be exactly the same as it would be if you were at home. You must learn to be flexible and if you absolutely must have internet at a certain time, you must do some planning ahead.
Listen as I share some great tools to use to help boost your internet experience and some stories of impromptu office spaces.
Enjoy!
