  • #073 – Why Be Normal?

I'm getting ready to do something that some may consider "not normal." At least not normal by the standards of what you may know of me and my personality.

    Here's the question though…

    Why be normal?

This week, I share things that I normally keep private. I even got a bit choked up as I was sharing memories of my brother.

Listen to the episode. You'll hear what Iron Maiden and my brother has taught me about "normal."

Learn how raising the question "Why be normal?" can help you achieve your goals.

Step out of what others may think you should do and what's normal to do, and enjoy your journey in creating the life you truly want for yourself.

Drop me a note. Are you trying to do something, or achieve a goal, that to some closest to you think isn't normal?

    Enjoy!

  • #072 - Can a MLM Really Make You Rich?

There are many mixed feelings about multilevel marketing companies. Some say they are scams and look down on them. Others believe they are the quick fix to financial freedom.

I believe that a MLM can be a fantastic work from anywhere business, but it's not for everyone.

If you're not familiar with what a multilevel marketing company is, generally speaking, you invest in the company by purchasing some sort of starter kit. From there, you are an un-salaried sales representative.

You earn a commission on the products you sell. You're encouraged to bring on additional sales reps because you also earn commissions on the products they sell. In short, compensation is of a pyramid structure. The more reps you sign on and the more they sell, the more you earn.

In this week's podcast, I share my failed experience with joining a MLM. You'd think I'd be down on them, but I know exactly why it failed and why I shouldn't have joined in the first place. Maybe my experience will help you avoid some heartache.

But, if joining an MLM is right for you, you need to remember something…

    It's not about the product.

I share in the podcast how important it is to create your personal brand so that you can earn more in your MLM.

    Enjoy!

  • #071 – Ideas Soaring with A Raven Design

This week, I'm excited to share an interview with dear friends and nomadic travelers Autumn and Adam Raven. This interview was originally recorded for Robert and my Been There Doing That Podcast, but I thought there was some inspirational and motivational info about how they fund their travel lifestyle.

No matter if you aspire to have a work-from-anywhere lifestyle, would like to make a change and start your own thing, or if you are already knee-deep in your entrepreneurial journey, this episode gives you a whole new perspective.

I love how Autumn and Adam freely share the inventive ways they earn their living and create the freedom they love. It's an episode to get you to thinking about all the possibilities and opportunities available out there.

My biggest takeaway from the conversation was there are so many opportunities to earn a great living AND create a lifestyle you desire.

What was your biggest takeaway from this conversation? I'd love to hear from you. Drop me an email at [email protected].

  • #070 – Lesson Learned by Not Judging a Book by His Cover

We've all heard the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." But we all do! That's why a lot of time and energy is devoted in product packaging.

Unfortunately, we make assumptions about people entirely too quickly. In this week's podcast, I share how I decided not to judge and sought out a conversation. Listen and learn what I learned from 87-year young Dale Smith when it comes to broadcasting your message and managing all the tech that goes with it.

  • #069 – Getting the Most Out of Live Events

Live events are important for both your personal and professional growth. In today's podcast, I share what I believe are the most important things to remember about live events.

    Highlights

Make the investment in yourself. Budget to go to one or two seminars or conferences annually.

Although going to live events can lead to a new client or two, let it come from genuine interaction, not a "push them in the corner and buy from me" scenario. No one likes that guy at the event.

Go there to learn and participate. If there's after-hours mingling, go. If there are lunch break-out sessions, go. Immerse yourself.

Live events are a great place to gain inspiration, but turn inspiration into action. Take at least a day afterward to go through your notes and turn your notes into action plans.

Follow-up with the people you had deeper conversations with. Drop them a note. Just be yourself and continue on that relationship online.

  • #068 – You Don't Have to be Techy to be Successful Online

With everything you must do to grow your small business does the thought of all the tech stuff make you want to crawl in a corner and hide?

The tech is supposed to make our lives easier, but it runs at lightning speeds and is overwhelming.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a place to go to be shown the basics to get you started and get you over the hump of your fear of tech?

In today's podcast, I invited my husband Robert to the show. He doesn't consider himself a "techy" person. We discuss the launching of his personal brand website. He feels comfortable with knowing the basics and experimenting with his messages and his communication to grow his following and grow his freelancing business.

Most of us, when just starting out, don't have the budget to hire people to do our blogging, email campaigns, social posts, etc. We are doing everything ourselves. The thing is…we are overwhelmed as to what to do and where to start.

To leverage your time, wouldn't it be nice to have a place to go where you can learn the basics in a simple, straightforward manner to get you through until you're ready to hire someone?

Wouldn't it be nice to be involved in a community of people just like you who fear tech just as much as you? Wouldn't it be nice to feel comfortable asking questions and not feeling behind the times or like an amateur?

You're not alone if feeling lost in navigating on how to work your business in the online world. As I reveal in this week's podcast, I'm taking applications on creating a community just for those who feel technically challenged. It's a perfect place for those who are in the in-between stage of needing to know enough of the tech to grow your business but not ready to hire your first virtual assistant.

I hope you enjoy this week's episode as Robert and I talk about not being ashamed of being tech challenged. To learn more about the application process, drop me a note at [email protected].

If you've got the tech thing down but know someone who needs help, I'd be honored if you'd share.

  • #067 – Why You Should Blog Even if You Don't Know What to Say

Do you produce a blog consistently? Either publishing an article, podcast, or video on your website?

    No? Why not?

In today's podcast, I share that I waited far too long to start my blog. I should've started producing consistent content way before my corporate life ended.

I didn't because at the time I opened my own business, I didn't realize the impact of a consistent blog would have on the longevity of my business.

I had this misperception that I needed to have everything about my business figured out and have a formal content plan drafted before I should start my blog. When I first started my business, I didn't have a clear picture of who my ideal client would be...let alone how to talk with them.

I felt inadequate because I'd see what the people I follow were doing and would become overwhelmed.

They are doing so much! Blogging, social posts, live events, courses, podcasting, video. And then they talk about stuff like list building, freebies, email segmentation, tagging, funnels, auto sequences, audience targeting....

Oh my!!! It's enough to make your head spin!

You start to feel terrible because you think you should be doing all that stuff. And instead of starting, you feel the mountain is so big, you simply feel like imploding.

    Deep breath…

If the idea of starting (or restarting) your blog makes your head swim, I invite you to listen to this week's podcast.

I share why you shouldn't wait to have everything figured out about your business before you start your blog. I also share what the single most important thing you must worry about in the beginning.

It doesn't matter if it's an article, a podcast, or a video…if you're a service provider of any kind, you need to blog for the longevity of your business.

    It doesn't matter if you're a…

  • #066 – Why You Should Join a Networking Group

Getting out and meeting new people face-to-face is essential in growing your business.

Don't wait until you think you've got everything figured out before you join a group. You need to get out and tell people what you're doing.

When you show up, you are establishing credibility with the other members in the group and more importantly, you're keeping a promise to yourself. You're gaining confidence in yourself that you can do this! You can grow your business!

In today's episode I share when I opened Scrivener Solutions, I knew the very first thing I should do is tell people. I joined a networking group that met weekly and I remained dedicated in attending whether I wanted to or not.

A networking group shouldn't be solely viewed as only gaining referrals. True, you'll earn referrals and grow your business when you engage, listen, and grow as an individual.

When you do new things, it's a scary thing. I had no idea of my exact direction or even a picture of who my ideal client would be when I walked into my first networking meeting. You don't have to have everything figured out before you start.

I invite you to listen to this week's podcast to gain insight on my networking beginnings. If you're not in a networking group, this episode is for you. Challenge yourself to join a group for at least a year. Learn from the process. Learn from the members.

I'd love to hear from you. Email [email protected] and share what your networking routine is. Don't have a routine yet? What's your biggest obstacle in joining a group?

  • #065 – Distractions That Suck the Life Out of Your Business

When you work for yourself, you must become even more disciplined than you would be when working for someone else. You must, at a minimum, show up to work, just to keep your job. When you work for yourself, it's up to you to hold yourself accountable.

You may say you don't have time to build your business, but in reality, you will make the time for things that are really important to you. If creating and growing your own business is truly important to you, you'll make the time to move forward.

When you're your own boss, you will be challenged with many distractions. In today's episode, I share my thoughts about alleviating some of those distractions.

No matter what it is in life if you find yourself saying "I should be doing..." and yet you're doing some other activity that's taking you away from growing your business...perhaps you need to cut it out of your routine...at least for a period of time.

I'd love to hear from you. Email [email protected] and share what your biggest time sucker is. In what ways have you been working on reducing or even eliminating that distraction?

  • #064 – Leaving Security of a Day Job for the Uncertainty of Entrepreneurship

In today's podcast, I share what I was going through in my transition from my day job and what, in hindsight, I should have done. Today's show is for you if you are frustrated in your day job and want to leave but don't know where to begin. It's also a show for those of you who say to yourself that you'll be leaving your day job…someday…but find yourself staying. You may have started your own business on the side, but you aren't working on it because you have convinced yourself that you must stay at your day job for the security.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with working for someone else. In fact, I appreciate the time and experience I gained when working for someone else. I also appreciate my staff and anyone that helps our company reach our goals.

But if you find yourself constantly complaining about working for someone else and wishing you had your own business and create freedom for yourself, it's time to act. Instead of complaining and wishing, you have it within you to just start.

It's time to be honest with yourself. When you say things like "I really want to start my own thing, but I can't…," it isn't the fact that you're scared of leaving the security of the consistent paycheck it's really the fear of failing. You have doubt in yourself and doubt in believing that you can truly make it work.

I hope my experience I share in today's episode lights a fire in you to give you confidence and courage to stop making excuses of fear of leaving the so-called security of your day job and creating your own security.

If you are perfectly happy working for someone else, great. But if you find yourself saying "Someday I'll be on my own," or feel trapped in your current job situation, start taking action now.

Finding the courage and strength to build your own business is sometimes hard. I know you can do it and the only thing stopping you is…Y-O-U.

You have it within you to gain the confidence in yourself to make it on your own. Consider your day job as an opportunity, a learning experience. It's a place you need to be during this season of your life. But look ahead at your next chapter and start planting those seeds to grow now. It's an exciting place to be to create your own security.

I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to email me your comments at [email protected].
