  • Ep. 177-How to Keep Your Focus When Studying the Bible

When you sit down to read or study the Bible, do you find yourself distracted? It's hard to stay focused when studying the Bible because there are distractions all around us, especially if you have kids at home or have to study in a place that may not be quiet or conducive to focusing.

As I've talked with women about making time for Bible study, I've thought about how I've learned to keep my focus. I've created a five-step process for getting into the study mindset so that you can stay focused.

There are several Bible study methods that can help you get into God's Word consistently. They can all be effective if you use them consistently. When choosing a method, it usually depends on your personal preference or learning style. I always say the most effective Bible study method is the one you will use consistently.

In episode 177, I will share what I call the FOCUS Bible study method. I'll walk you through the five steps and give you my best tips for maximizing each step. So grab your favorite beverage and settle in so we can get started.

  • Ep. 176-Three Ways to Hear God's Voice

Have you ever heard God speak to you? Chances are you haven't heard him audibly, but you may have sensed his presence and direction in your life. Then again, maybe you feel you've never heard from him at all.

As believers, it's essential to learn to hear God speaking in our lives. Again, I'm not talking about hearing an audible voice, although I firmly believe that he would make a way if he wanted us to hear his voice audibly.

Learning how to hear God speaking to you can be helpful in so many ways. Maybe you are struggling with a decision about something that could be life-changing. Perhaps you just need reassurance that God is there and in control of your life. Whatever the reason you want to hear from God, there are ways we can learn to discern his voice.

In episode 176, I share three ways that you can hear God speaking to you. So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and let's get started!

  • Ep. 175-Three Ways to Study the Bible in a Deeper Way

Do you long to read the Bible and be able to understand it for yourself without the aid of commentaries or other Bible studies? Do you feel that your quiet time with the Lord could be more meaningful?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, I totally understand. I have had the desire to go deeper into Bible study for several years. It's one of the reasons I chose to start pursuing a seminary degree last fall. I want to know the Bible inside and out as best as I can.

I would guess, though, that you may not know how to study the Bible to get the most out of it. So, in episode 175, I will share with you three things you can do now to begin diving deeper into God's Word.

Grab your favorite beverage and maybe something to take notes with as we talk about how to study the Bible in a deeper way.

  • Ep. 174-Four Verses to Pray in Seasons of Waiting

Hey, friend! Do you find it difficult to be patient when you are in a season of waiting? I'll admit that I struggle with this a lot. I don't like to wait for anything.

However, I know as a believer that God can use these seasons of waiting to refine my character and shape me to be more like Christ. That doesn't mean it's easy or that I like it.

One thing I've found that has helped me in seasons of waiting is to pray Scripture back to God. When we pray God's word back to Him, we know that He hears us. And praying Scripture helps us to pray according to God's will, not our own. It makes surrendering the outcome to God much easier.

So, grab your favorite beverage and settle in as I share four verses you can pray during a season of waiting.

Maybe you're not used to praying Scripture. Don't worry! I've got you covered. I'll share how each of these verses can be made into a prayer.

  • Ep 173 - Is Your Phone Keeping You From Spending Time with God?

When I talk to women about living out their faith, they will often tell me that they live busy lives and find it hard to fit in time with God. I get it. Even though I'm an empty nester, I still have a busy life. Once my kids flew the nest, I quickly filled the time I used to spend with them and taking care of their needs.

It doesn't matter if you are single, have a young family, work outside the home, or are retired. Life today is busy. That means we must be intentional about spending time with God. Our time with God is the foundation we need to be able to live out our faith. If we don't spend time with him in his word or in prayer, how else will we know what it means to live out our faith?

In episode 173, I will share how one thing most of us have in common can keep us from spending time with God. Yes, this episode comes from my own experience. So if you feel like I'm stepping on your toes, know that this is for me, too.

Listen in to learn my three best tips for putting boundaries around your phone use.

  • Ep. 171-Why Encouragement is an Important Part of Living Out Your Faith

Hey, friend! Have you ever considered that being an encouragement to someone is a way you can live out your faith?

Back in December, I shared three episodes to help you live out your faith with clarity, courage, and consistency. In those episodes, I gave several ideas for living out your faith. This week as I'm recording this episode, I've been reminded that even the small things we do, like saying a word of encouragement to someone, are ways that we live out our faith.

Just yesterday, I saw a quote on my friend Kristin's Facebook page that said something like ministry doesn't have to be hard to be holy. I think we sometimes hold the belief that we have to do something big, like serve in a leadership role at church, go on a mission trip, or work in ministry to live out our faith.

But that's not the case at all. We live out our faith in the day-to-day of life through all of the things we think, say, and do. Today I want to share three examples from my life that may inspire you to live out your faith by encouraging others.

    Let's live it out,

    Jennifer

  • Ep. 170-How to Delight in Abundant Peace

Hey, friend! It's the third week of the year. How are you? Are you moving forward and doing your best to achieve the goals you set at the beginning of the year? Or are you feeling overwhelmed with life feeling that nothing has changed just because we are in a new year?

I'll admit that the last few weeks have not been very productive for me. My daughter has been home from college for the last month. And while I love it when she's home, my schedule has been thrown off a bit. Now I'm staring at what seems to be a never-ending to-do list feeling that I'll never get it all done. Some days peace is elusive as I continue to think about all I need to do.

So, I've taken some time with the Lord and have sought his peace in my life. I'm grateful that he has helped me to reframe some situations that have been causing me stress.

Today I want to share with you in episode 170 of Live It Out With The Planning Woman how you can delight in peace. And not just peace but abundant peace.

Grab your favorite beverage and settle in as we learn how to delight in abundant peace. This is going to be a short yet powerful episode, so let's go!
