The Menu (2022)
A look back at two clever marketing tactics inspired by the film 'The Menu', the darkly satirical thriller set in the world of exclusive fine dining.
1. The Power of Straplines:
The filmโs marketing leaned heavily on its witty straplines:
"Painstakingly Prepared. Brilliant Execution."
"A FINE PLACE TO DI(N)E"
"ONE PERCENTER DI(N)E HERE"
"MOVIE STARS DI(N)E HERE"
2. Inventing Restaurant Review:
To build intrigue, the marketing team โleakedโ a fake review from a fictional food critic, supposedly invited to the filmโs central restaurant, Hawthorn. The review read:
โDining at Hawthorn is an experience unlike any other. The chefโs menu is a masterclass in precision, creativity, andโdare I sayโdanger. Each course is a revelation, but itโs the final act that truly takes your breath away. Five stars for flavour, one star for survival odds.โ
These one-liners and imagined restaurant reviews perfectly captured the filmโs blend of culinary artistry and sinister suspense, making it instantly memorable.
