The Broken Record Player Podcast

Living Colour-Vivid

Listen Later

Things get a little political on this episode as  my friend Larry Santiago (who is also a teacher and a musician) returns to discuss Vivid, the 1988 debut from Living Colour.

We talk about how this album was able to blend so many different styles together from funk, jazz, pop, metal, hip hop, and even a little country, but also touch on the messages that are still relevant today, from gentrification and racism, to cults and how our political leaders brainwash us and lead us astray. This album paved the way for bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, and System of a Down, and still holds up to this day as a catchy, heavy, and relevant album.

Larry's latest musical project is Big Lair and the Brown Sound. Check them out if you're into hard rock!
