Jesus promises peace for his followers, but yet we often find ourselves lacking peace. While there are a number of reasons why this might be true, our lack of obedience to Jesus is a major threat to our peace. Jesus is a good teacher and lord in that he prepares his disciples ahead of time for navigating life in this evil age. He gives wisdom, warning and guidance so that we can be prepared and not be taken out by the troubles that come. Self-pity is one thing that Jesus warns against because self-pity takes our eyes off of him and onto ourselves and our situations.
