Peace is often associated with the Christmas season. Silent nights, snowy scenes and sleeping babies are sweet but not really what the first Christmas was like, nor what life in general is often like. So what is peace, where does it come from and how do we experience it? The answer is found in the Prince of Peace himself promises his peace to all who come to him.

Advent a special and historic practice of the church which helps us prepare our hearts for Christmas. During this season we remember the promises of God, rejoice in the coming of the King and look forward to his second advent. This week we look at the biblical topic of "hope" which is more about waiting than it is about being optimistic. For the Christian, we don't hope in something, we hope in someone.

the LORD is the Creator of heavens and earth and yet concerned about small details in our lives. He blesses His people in amazing and precise ways to remind us of His love and goodness. But these blessings are not just for us, they are for others! And the purpose of God's blessing is for fuel for our faithfulness to Him. We will discover these important realities through the story of the finding of Isaac's wife in Genesis 24.

Tests are one of God’s ways to grow us. Tests and trials of faith are from God and designed to build your endurance and for your good. Temptations are from the devil designed to have you sin and erode your trust in God. One of the greatest trials is the story of Abraham offering Isaac and it reveals Abraham's willingness to obey the God he had come to trust.

God makes a promise, we wait on Him to bring it to pass. That's living by faith. But what if His plans are different or take longer than ours? Do we give up, take shortcuts or take over? God is never glorified when we take matters into our own hands, but always is when we allow Him to bring to pass what we never could on our own.

Abraham's nephew is in Sodom, surrounded by sin, evil and wrong. But the wickedness of Sodom seems to have saturated his heart too. As God mercifully rescues Lot from the place that will soon experience God's judgment, we learn from lessons for our own battle against sin.

Abraham was different. He wasn't preoccupied with being first. He wasn't out to be the best of the best. He didn't get caught up in the world around him but trusted God with his fate and future. He saw his life and the world through faith and the reward of God's promise.

Abram shows us what it means to be a person of faith. He hears and believes God's promise and obeys God as a result. And while he waits for God's promises to be fulfilled He worships.
