In this episode of Coffee with the Superintendent, we begin the First Pour by opening Paul’s letter to the Philippians and listening carefully to his opening words. Written from a Roman world obsessed with status and power, Paul’s greeting reorients the church around a very different foundation. Servants lead, saints are defined by their union with Christ, and grace and peace flow not from human effort but from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. This opening sets the tone for life under the New Covenant, where identity precedes obedience and leadership flows from humility.
In the Second Pour, we turn our attention to the life of Berean Baptist Academy, catching up on a full slate of belated birthdays after the Christmas break. We celebrate alumni, current students, faculty, and staff, recognizing the people who make up our community and giving thanks for the gift of life God has granted each one.
In the Final Pour, we anchor the week with our memory passages from Isaiah 61 and Luke 4. We see how Jesus stands in the synagogue and declares that the long-awaited promise has arrived in Him. The year of the Lord’s favor is proclaimed, freedom is announced, and the age of grace is inaugurated. Together, these passages remind us that the gospel is not about striving for release, but living as those who have already been set free in Christ.
