In this episode of Coffee with the Superintendent, we walk through Luke 2:1–7 and reflect on the birth of Christ as it unfolded in real history, under real rulers, and in ordinary hardship. We explore how God used the power of Rome to fulfill ancient promises made to David, bringing the Savior into the world in humility rather than spectacle. The devotional section centers on the quiet faith of Mary and Joseph, the fulfillment of Old Testament promises, and the arrival of the new covenant through the person of Jesus Christ. The Second Pour celebrates birthdays, school life, and community events, while pointing us toward fellowship and joy. In the Final Pour, we examine a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche through a New Covenant lens, showing that true freedom is not found in self-rule but in surrender to Christ. Together, these moments remind us that Advent is about making room for Jesus in our lives, our homes, and our community, even when the world feels crowded and distracted.
