In today’s Coffee with the Superintendent, we step into Philippians 3:1 and hear Paul give a command that is far sturdier than it sounds: “Rejoice in the Lord.” This is not emotional hype. It is New Covenant stability. Paul ties joy to Christ Himself, not to outcomes, circumstances, or personal performance. We explore how Old Covenant patterns often trained people to read blessing and hardship as a spiritual scorecard, and how the finished work of Christ frees the believer to rejoice even when life hurts. Paul also explains why he repeats this message: joy is a safeguard. It protects the heart from drifting back into self-reliance, comparison, and religious confidence in the flesh. As the day unfolds, we celebrate an alumni birthday, share the lunch menu, and send our basketball teams out with support. We close with Philosophical Friday, testing Nietzsche’s famous quote against the New Covenant and centering the believer’s “why” in Christ.
