Sin is a disease that infects our souls and causes brokenness. The  realization that sin causes guilt and shame not only for what we’ve  done, but what it forms us into and how it causes harm to us and others,  leads us to mourn. Those who mourn sin and repent and believe the  Gospel are comforted in Christ.

The Promises of the Kingdom of God | Matthew 5:3 | Week 1

The poor in spirit are not people who are emotionally down or weak.  Those with a poverty of spirit are wise because they recognize they are  in need of God’s help. Self-sufficiency is the opposite of being poor in  spirit (Revelation 3:17). Those who rely on Jesus  enjoy the promise of being possessors of the Kingdom of God (heaven) and  enjoy all the benefits that come with trusting in and serving the King  of kings.

The Holy Spirit has come. He fills us with love for Jesus so that we happily obey Him.

Jesus came to give new life. In order to experience new life, we must be  born again. Our old life must pass away so the new life of faith by the  Spirit can thrive.
