Hebrews 4:14-16

We know what we want. The conveyor belt of temptation is always running in front of us. It parades sinful desires and sinful attitudes within arm's reach. And so often we reach for and take what we want. It's the same old story.

We need someone to withstand temptation. Someone who can also show us the way to God's throne where we can receive help in time of need.

1 Corinthians 4:1-5

Here's the perfect bookend to our "Upside Down Wisdom" series.

Because we've had the mystery of salvation revealed to us we're given a call to action. We're given a trust. We're called to be faithful managers of this message. It's a big responsibility. Are we up for it? Can we do it?

1 Corinthians 3:10, 11, 16-23

There's a bold claim being made here. Paul says, "All is yours." Can we believe him? Is that too good to be true?

It's not.

1 Corinthians 2:6-13

The Bible is a big book. We might be intimidated by it and think we’ll never be able to understand everything it says. And in some ways it’s true. We could study God’s Word for a lifetime and never be able to comprehend all its depth.

But when we immerse ourselves in the Word and when we get the right teacher, the Holy Spirit, we can come to know even the deep things of God.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

"I resolved to know nothing when I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." With these words the apostle Paul reminds the Corinthians that Jesus + Nothing = Everything.

We clear the way for this gospel message. We simply let the message stand on its own.

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

It's time for a self-esteem checkup. Do you have low self-esteem? Do you have overly-high self-esteem? Neither kind of self-esteem is healthy.

But the apostle Paul gives you a new way to measure self-esteem and personal worth. And, actually, this kind of esteem has nothing to do with us.

1 Corinthians 1:18-25

Christianity has been called a "religion for losers." The message of Christ crucified is viewed as foolishness. But Paul says the opposite. "To those who are being saved, Christ crucified is the power of God and the wisdom of God."

Watch as the foolishness of God, Christ crucified, turns conventional human wisdom upside down. We'll find that clinging to the foolishness of God is better than clinging to the greatest of mankind's wisdom.

1 Corinthians 1:10-17

The message matters much more than the messenger.

Human tendency is to gravitate toward wise and eloquent leaders but God's upside down wisdom is to focus more on WHAT a person is saying than WHO they are or HOW they say it.
