Unfortunately, the way Jonah's story has been taught in Sunday school for the past 30 years has been all about the fish, causing many people to miss the actual heart and message of this short Old Testament book. Instead, the story of Jonah is a narrative about a renegade prophet in need of grace, and a compassionate God who shows that grace both to those He works through and those He saves.
