We recorded this special interview with @Scottmassey83 in March 2025 down at @Horsforth_tap during their retro Beers and Bytes evening.

Fazz (interviewing) is flying after 3 pints of Horsforth Brewery's excellent 'Forty Orbits' so please forgive the slurred line of questioning and concentrate on Scott's answers as we discuss his Instagram account all about an adoration for gaming.

We hit important subjects such as what it is like to herald from Barnsworth (Castleford), tinkering with consoles/controllers and how great it is to be in the pub with like minded Retro gaming strangers on a Wednesday who choose not to murder each other!

April 13, 2025 107: Worms Armageddon (PC), Killer Frequency (PS4)
Hi Podpeeps
We recorded this small-scale episode a few weeks ago as half of your host duo are on their holidays currently.
It's appropriate then that we spend the bulk of our time discussing some of the most famous tiny creatures in the video gaming world, Team 17's Worms.
In particular, Rich covers off Worms Armageddon (1999, PC) which recently had a 25th anniversary edition released via Team 17/Digital Eclipse at the end of 2024. Whilst we do not cover that particular version on the podcast, Rich's review was enough to force Fazz to wriggle off and purchase it in the meantime. The nostalgia hits THAT hard.
We work quickly to negate the reminiscence by reviewing Team 17's most recently developed game, Killer Frequency (2023, PS4). A first person horror/reverse escape room adventure set in an 80's radio station primarily designed for VR... Do Team 17 dial up another classic or does it leave Fazz squeaking "You'll regret that!"?

April 07, 2025 106: Tekken 8 (PS5), Rez Infinite (Meta Quest 3), Fantavision (PS2)
Welcome to another edition of 'Freeplay Fortnightly' where both hosts pick a video game that we want to play and keep it secret from each other. We review each game on the podcast and ask our co-host to score the game out of 10 based on our TOP quality review. Simple? You bet we are!
Alas, there was a little bit of an identity crisis on the pod this week relating to the games we brought to the table...
With a season 2 patch dropping in the week of recording, Rich asks who is Tekken 8 (2024, PS5) for and why does it struggle to find its way in a world devoid of 3D fighters?
Fazz encounters similar issues with Fantavision (2000, PS2) which launched days after the PS2 console 25 years ago. Who was this game designed for and why is it... nobody?!?
Finally we round things off with a trip to cyberspace to take on the challenge of Rez Infinite (2016, Meta Quest 3). Rez has been doing the rounds since 2001 but does the updated VR experience enhance or detract from the original's well regarded rhythmic wonder? The worst identity crisis we encountered in this game was Fazz thinking he'd ascended to 'The One' via the Matrix...

Chaos Theory is "a situation where the behaviors of a system appear random and unpredictable". It's extremely pertinent then that we have no rhyme or reason for stringing together the games we are reviewing this week...
- A 36 year old cult classic that is now widely considered one of the best NES games ever made...
Step forward River City Ransom (1989, NES). Take a bow.
- A 20 year old PS2/Xbox/PC classic widely considered as possibly the best in iteration in its storied franchise...
Welcome Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005, PS2). Your throne awaits.
- A 25 year old PS1 game. That's it. That's all it gets...
"Stand back from the platform edge or you may get sucked off" Chase The Express (2000, PS1). That last one is a genuine railway sign here in UK. We're not sorry.

March 24, 2025 104: Resistance Retribution (PSP/PS Plus), Cliff Diving Augmented Reality (PS Vita)
Hi podders
This week is all about 'Unfinished Business'. Whether it is chasing former housemates down the road with a glass bottle at 3am or potentially defecating on others from a great height, it's all about REWENGE this week.
(FYI... That is spelled correctly. Peak Blackadder/Peep Show reference. Go check it out.)
Rich heads to the beach via his tabletop surface to play Cliff Diving (2012, PS Vita), an augmented reality Vita feature that he is yet to share his feelings about on the podcast. Let's hope it doesn't land flat like some of the other PS Vita gadgets have before.
Meanwhile Fazz takes on Resistance Retribution (2009, PSP) via his PSP and PS Plus premium. It's been a while since he dipped into the Resistance series (which he has fond memories of... Mostly.) so he's interested to understand how he can deal out justice to the Chimera with the plethora of different control systems provided by Sony 16 years ago.
Also don't worry... we've searched and we can't find anybody by the name of 'Mr Cliff Diving' on the internet so we're hopefully safe from his theoretical legal retribution. Full circle preview complete!

March 17, 2025 103: IGN's Top 25 PS1 & N64 games... 'This or that'?!?
"Shows increased independence and may resist being told what to do".
"Can use a core vocabulary of around 50 words, with a growing ability to understand and use new words".
"Enjoys playing with other children and engaging in simple games".
These are some of the important developmental stages of an average 2 year old so you can expect all of the above from us this week as Living La Vita Loca turns 2 years old. Huzzah!
How are we planning to celebrate? With pointless, arbitrary fisticuffs powered by a jazzy spreadsheet of course!
We've taken the Top 25 PS1 and N64 games (as determined by IGN) and pitted them against each other in a match of 'This or that?'
There's no fairness about it or anything sensible like that. We work our way down from number 25 on both lists and decide which game should stay at each position.
"Absolute nonsense" we hear you say... Just what you'd expect from a 2 year old like us.

March 10, 2025 102: Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (PS4)
Space Admin, Space aquariums, Sexy space robots.
These are just some of the dense themes that someone needs to cover off when reviewing the 100 hour space odyssey that is Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (PS4, 2021).
We decided we needed to rope in a 'Large Party RPG' professional to help with such weighty topics...
Someone who can actually define the words 'Paragon' and 'Renegade' (unlike Fazz).
Someone who is happy to speak effusively for 90 minutes on our podcast whilst we prod them with really inane questions.
Someone who has played through the remastered trilogy again recently so it's fresh in their mind.
Luckily, that someone was sat downstairs in the pod house.
Enter Fiona, a pod stalwart by this point, to help 'Shephard' us through a Whistle-stop tour of the Mass Effect Galaxy. Settle in for the bumpy ride. It's a bit like a journey in the Mako, only hopefully not totally shit.

March 03, 2025 101: Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (PS5), Sleeping Dogs (Xbox One)
Gang warfare. Yakuza. Triads. It's a world that is very far removed from ours in West Yorkshire. (Although Fazz is still very concerned about the cats that are gathering on his road in great number... They killed a wood pigeon last week dont you know?!?)
Luckily it seems that 'Gang' video games have been doing a booming trade over the last 15 years so we've picked two games this week to give us a little insight into being a gang member in Far East Asia.
Representing the Yakuza is Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (2023, PS5) which is a spin off from the mainline Like a Dragon (Yakuza) franchise. The series itself has over 20 games across mainline, spin-off and remake entries. Fazz asks Rich to explain the series lineage briefly. Rich tells Fazz to politely F*&k off. That's probably fair.
Showing up for the Triads, with a slightly less convoluted back story, is Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (2014, Xbox One). Whilst the game was generally well regarded at the time of release, it never received a cancelled sequel. Last month, a movie adaptation has been reported as being in revived development so does the fire still glow strong for a game originally released 13 years ago?
Finally we round things off with some of our favourite 'Video Game Gangs'.

The top 50 best selling video games (as according to Wikipedia!!!) have been broken down into brackets of 5 and we all pick a game from each bracket, snake draft style, until all 3 hosts have a team of 10 Video games. Got it?
We will add a poll to our social accounts later in the week so YOU can decide who wins the draft and gets to take home the arbitrary glory!

"Welcome to Anarchy 99" is a quote from the stellar 2002 movie, XXX starring Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson. It can also be used to introduce the 99th episode of Living La Vita Loca Podcast. Wait...do you guys remember when Samuel L. Jackson did that movie "51st State" with Robert Carlyle? When was that? 2001? Maaan... Samuel L did some trash around then huh?!?
We won't lie... someone has left the dummy who's never played a 'Soulsborne' video game to do the blurb for this episode and he's just filibustering at this point.
Luckily, we do have two semi-competent humans starring in this episode who do a much better job of tackling some of the crown jewels of the Fromsoftware back catalogue:
In the dark, dark, dark red/black corner we have Rich defending the honour of Bloodborne (2015, PS4).
In the... erm... other dark, dark, dark red/black corner we have our friend Jack flying the flag for Darks Souls 3 (2016, PS4).
Tune in to find out which game rules the roost as their favourite Soulsborne serving and how these games have changed with them over the years.
Oh and Fazz INSISTS on playing a gameshow that noone understands that hes calling 'Soulslikey, No Likey'. Standard fare there then.
