Living On The Altar // Full Sermon // Pastor Kevin Burrows

Listen Later

Missed yesterday's message, listen to Pastor Kevin Burrows teaches on "Living On The Altar: A Call To A Sacred Commitment."

Key Points:
The Meaning Of The Altar:
Definition:
An altar is a place of sacrifice, surrender, and divine encounter.

Biblical Purpose:
A place of sacrifice (Genesis 22:9–13)
A place of encounter (Exodus 20:24)
A place of covenant (Joshua 24:24–27)
A place of worship (Psalm 43:4)

Key Truth:
The altar is where self ends, and surrender begins.

What It Means To Be A Living Sacrifice:
Unlike Old Testament sacrifices that died once, Paul calls us to be continually alive on the altar — daily surrender.

Being a living sacrifice means:
 - Staying available for God’s use.
 - Laying down your will repeatedly.
 - Allowing God to shape your character.

Important Thought:
A “living” sacrifice can climb off the altar — but true surrender chooses to stay there.

What Happens On The Altar:
1. Death to Self – Galatians 2:20
You die to pride, ambition, and worldly desires.
Something must die before something divine can live.
2. Encounter with God’s Presence – 1 Kings 18:38
Fire doesn’t fall on empty performance — it falls on surrendered hearts.
3. Transformation and Renewal – Romans 12:2
The altar renews your mind and realigns your will.
4. Covenant and Commitment – Joshua 24:27
Every altar moment marks a new level of commitment.

The Fire of the Altar:
Leviticus 6:13 – “The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”

Fire represents:
God’s Presence (Exodus 3:2)
God’s Approval (1 Kings 18:38)
God’s Purification (Isaiah 6:6–7)
Keep the fire burning through:
Prayer
 Worship
 The Word
Obedience
Key Thought:
The fire of God will stay lit as long as the sacrifice stays surrendered.

Living On The Altar Daily:
Luke 9:23 – “Take up your cross daily and follow Me.”

It’s not a one-time experience — it’s a lifestyle.
You don’t just come to the altar; you become the altar.
Every decision, reaction, and prayer is laid before Him.
