Before Virginia understood the lyrics, she understood the feeling. In Episode 153, she traces her earliest relationship with music—from the Spanish lullabies her Nana sang while rubbing her back to family parties where little Virginia performed for change and folded dollar bills.

She remembers the record-player consoles that anchored the family living room, the painstaking ritual of learning lyrics one line at a time, and a household filled with Carole King, Motown, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Eydie Gormé and Trío Los Panchos. She also reflects on why “Piel Canela” still brings her Nana back, what “You’ve Got a Friend” taught her about dependable love, and how some songs introduce a feeling years before life supplies its meaning.

The story comes full circle through Virginia’s children and grandchildren—especially the unforgettable sight of Cory holding newborn Zeke skin-to-skin while singing the family’s evolving lullaby. Music did more than entertain her. It preserved people, rooms, safety and love, then carried them into another generation.

Reality television used to be easy escape: funny, messy, glamorous and just human enough to keep us invested. But what happens when reality TV stops being fun—and we keep watching anyway?

In this Tuesday episode of Living on the Virg, Virginia examines reality television fatigue, hate-watching and the attention economy through Love Island, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Summer House, The Valley and The Real Housewives of Orange County. The shows may be different, but the bargain is the same: habit, outrage, loyalty and hope all produce attention.

Virginia looks honestly at her own role as both a viewer and a podcaster. Covering a show creates responsibility, but commitment can become inertia. A familiar cast member’s newest scandal may be exhausting or upsetting—and still keep that person central because negative attention remains valuable.

The conversation also asks whether a season off, a reduced role or simply less narrative dominance could help an ensemble breathe. Space does not have to be punishment. Sometimes it is what allows affection, curiosity and perspective to return.

Virginia takes us on her Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas. The trip began in San Juan, Puerto Rico, ended in Fort Lauderdale and included stops in St. Kitts, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Maarten and Grand Turk—with two completely different sea days woven into the journey.

The islands were beautiful, but the memories that stayed were the personal and unexpected ones: meeting an 11:11 tattoo twin in a St. Kitts coffee shop, taking an unplanned tour through Antigua, getting caught in a tropical rainstorm during a St. Maarten beach day, dancing alone at eighties night, eating enormous nachos at Margaritaville and discovering a piece of American space history in Grand Turk. Back aboard the ship, Virginia found both the lively Schooner Bar and Vortex, a quiet hidden gem high above the water.
