With a population of more than 800,000 people, Amsterdam is the Netherlands most populous city. It also receives over 4 million international visitors and 16 million day-trippers each year. So, it is crowded. But that didn't prevent researchers from setting out to look for new animal species.

In the US in 1957, the state of Virginia finished an ambitious project – a series of roads, bridges and tunnels connecting cities and America’s largest naval base along its coast. Flying is responsible for more than two percent of global carbon emissions. And the flight-shaming movement, Flygskam is becoming more influential. The drive originated in Sweden and the word is used to describe the increasing trend of the guilt or shame felt by frequent flyers. There’s even a push in the Scandinavian country to try to convince people to give up flying for a year.

Flying is largely inexpensive when compared to the cost of its environmental impact. Should plane tickets be pricier to factor in its ecological damage? DW reporter Ajit Niranjan discusses this in studio.

Over the last decade, European train operators began discontinuing their night routes because, in part, they were proving a financial drain. Fewer passengers were taking them, choosing flight travel instead. But now these exact trains are making a comeback, in large due to anxieties over the damage flying is doing to the planet.
