In today’s episode, you will learn about sales, the sales process, and what you need to know to pursue a career in sales. Sales is a career path that many young professionals looking to work in sport don’t consider…now the issue there is, the majority of jobs in sport that are available for young professionals are in sales! If you can sell, there is a place for you in this industry, and the more you learn and get experience in sales, the better off you may be transitioning into other roles in sport.
Joining us in the studio is Austin Jones, Sales Associate at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, New Jersey Devils.
Austin Jones is in the midst of his first full-time sales position and he is going to speak to what he’s learned thus far. Like many listeners out there, Austin did not see himself taking the leap into sales but he knew he needed to challenge himself. Tune in to hear why.
Today we will be diving into the topics of scouting and player development. Working in sport obliviously, we have a passion for sport, right?!? We know a lot of the big names on the field, but we don’t necessarily know how a lot of players got to where they are today. This is where scouting and player development comes in.
Scouting and Player Development is one of the hottest careers in sport business and we will be chatting with two all-stars on the topic, Katie Mooradian and Daniel Sarna. While the gigs are out there, they can be hard to come by and there are very few resources giving you the direct path to get into this side of the industry.
We did the research and chatted with professionals. From discussing various advanced radar technologies to life on the road, we cover it all. Let this episode serve as your resource to these careers and inspiration to chase your dreams!

One consistent lesson that comes from this episode is that building genuine connections, friendships, and relationships can take you far in this industry. This business can be tough…and you need that team behind you in your career. Listen in to hear why..
A warm and special shoutout to all of our alumni that continue to make our community one of the truest and strongest networks you can find in the sport industry. Happy Living Sportsgiving everyone!
The sport industry is certainly robust. With so many paths to take, as a sport management major when I was in college, I remember that I too didn’t even know where to start when choosing what direction I wanted to go in. I just wanted to work in sport.
Today’s focus is a really helpful hint for any young professional. It is about trying everything to help find your niche in the sport industry. We are going to discuss this with a sport business professional that knows a thing or two about that.
Nick Davies, the Chief Strategy Officer at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation discusses his role in the world’s fastest growing sport while offering a ton of advice that you can apply to the sport niche you desire.
Here is a little pro tip I also want to mention... You may hear the term “CV” used throughout the podcast. In Europe, a CV is just another name for the traditional resume.
Listen in to learn more about MMA, the Olympic Games, and how to get a job in sport.
