Amazing Concept
Pastor Thom Gardner has written an amazing book! I have been fortunate enough to participate in the classes he just taught in reference to 'Living The God Breathed Life'. He does not 'teach the book'; He enhances the book. Both are life-changing experiences. Pastor Thom is absolutely brilliant the way he brings the concept of 'Coming to the Table with Jesus' to real life. This is a must-read.
God-Breathed Life -- the title says it all
Thom Gardner never disappoints.. This is a book where the way it ends makes the reading journey truly fulfilling. For me, chapter 14, "My Journey to the Table." made the whole book worth reading.
Five Stars
Awesome!
Interactive spiritual book
This book was hard to rate. I enjoyed the book and grew from Thom's teachings. If you like Thom Gardner's books then you will like this one. If you never read one of his books than there are somethings you should know.
The book is an interactive book. The end of each chapter ask you to reflect on the material presented and what Jesus is saying to you about the material. So you need time for reflection. It is not a boom to read straight through in one sitting.
The book is centered around the account of John's two disciples who followed Jesus to where He was Stalingrad their encounter with Him. The book mainly talks about the concept of table and how we are fully present with one another around the table. Thom looks at the table in Scripture and what happened around it. For example, Abraham and the visitors by the oaks of Mamre; the Last Supper; and how we fellowship around a table. We are present with each other as we fellowship around the table. I felt the book stretched the concept of table with a few of the Scriptures used.
Thom uses a narrative approach to the Scriptures to draw you in and get you to think. I was a little concerned with this approach since he Is going out of the bounds of the Scripture and using other resources to create his narration.
Most of the issues I had with the book were more personal. The use of narration in Scripture and the lack of time spend on the reflections at the end of the chapters. Through his books the author is trying to help us remove the veils or barriers that separate US from a closer relationship with Jesus.
Breathe in--Inspire--God's Spirit
I always read with a dual purpose--for help in my own journey and as a potential tool as I work with folks on their journey.
The God-Breathed Life was as divinely inspired as its title implies. As a writer, I admire the structure of the book and the personal disclosures throughout. But it was as a pure reader that I gained so much.
When it comes to gaining increased intimacy with Christ, The God-Breathed Life is a breath of fresh air.
