Living the Promise || Pastor Jason Sharp

Listen Later

In today's gathering, we explored the profound hope and promise found in John 14, where Jesus assures us of a place prepared for us in His Father's house. This passage is a reminder that our hearts need not be troubled, for our faith in Jesus secures our future with Him. Jesus declares Himself as the way, the truth, and the life, emphasizing that no one comes to the Father except through Him. This truth is foundational to our faith, as it assures us of our eternal destination and the intimate relationship we have with God through Christ.
We also delved into the beautiful analogy of marriage, reflecting on the anticipation and joy that a bride and groom experience as they prepare for their wedding day. This mirrors the relationship between Christ and the Church, His bride. Just as a bride prepares herself for her groom, we are called to prepare ourselves for Christ's return, living in righteousness and holiness. The anticipation of His coming should fill us with joy and motivate us to live lives that honor Him.
Furthermore, we discussed the significance of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, whom Jesus promised to send. The Holy Spirit dwells within us, guiding, teaching, and empowering us to live according to God's will. This indwelling presence is a foretaste of the eternal communion we will have with God in the new heaven and new earth, where there will be no more pain, sorrow, or death.
In light of these truths, we are reminded of the urgency to live with eternity in mind. The reality of heaven and hell compels us to share the gospel, ensuring that others have the opportunity to experience the hope and salvation found in Jesus. Our lives should reflect the love and grace of God, drawing others to the truth of His Word.
Key Takeaways:
- **The Assurance of Jesus' Promise**: Jesus comforts us with the promise of a prepared place in His Father's house, urging us not to let our hearts be troubled. This assurance is rooted in our faith in Him as the way, the truth, and the life, providing us with a secure hope for eternity.
- **The Bride and the Groom**: The anticipation and joy of a bride preparing for her groom is a powerful analogy for the Church's relationship with Christ. We are called to live in righteousness, preparing ourselves for His return, just as a bride adorns herself for her wedding day.
- **The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit**: Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to dwell within us, guiding and empowering us to live according to God's will. This presence is a foretaste of the eternal communion we will have with God in the new creation.
- **The Urgency of the Gospel**: The reality of heaven and hell compels us to share the gospel with urgency. Our lives should reflect God's love and grace, drawing others to the truth of His Word and the hope of salvation in Jesus.
- **Living with Eternity in Mind**: We are encouraged to live with eternity in mind, understanding that our present lives are preparation for the eternal joy and communion we will experience with God. This perspective should motivate us to live holy and righteous lives.
